The FCC should never be weaponized to intimidate journalists and silence their efforts to hold powerful people accountable.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr just opened a sham investigation into NPR and PBS. This is exactly the kind of abuse of power you’d expect from a man who wrote a chapter in Project 2025.

Brendan Carr, the new head of the Federal Communications Commission under President Trump, says the public broadcasters are being investigated for allegedly running commercials.

Congressman Tim Kennedy (NY-26) released the following statement in the aftermath of the American Airlines Flight 5342 crash outside of Reagan Washington National Airport:

“I am praying for all the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy involving American Airlines Flight 5342 and a U.S. Army helicopter that took the lives of 67 people. I will continue to monitor and support the work of federal agencies responding to and investigating this tragic incident. Moving forward, I will fight to ensure that their deaths were not in vain. As our nation joins together to mourn, may we use this moment to embrace one another and the values that unite us.

“In the wake of the crash, I’m appalled President Trump chose to politicize this horrific tragedy, desecrating the memory of each of the 67 souls that were lost. Instead of relying on expert federal agencies to complete their investigations to determine the cause of the crash, he has continued his assault on women and people of color in the federal workforce. His actions are beneath the dignity of the office he holds and Americans deserve better.”

Rest easy, Jerry 😔

Rest easy, Jerry 😔

I had the pleasure of working with Jerry Kaminski for seven years on the Cheektowaga town council. When I was first elected in 2017, I made a point to reach out to Jerry and build a working relationship with him. From day one, Jerry expressed a willingness to work with me and gave me the opportunity to earn his respect.

Jerry was more than four decades my senior, but we found a lot of common ground. He brought a spirit of pragmatism to the job as a councilman that I have always appreciated. Jerry valued the expertise of our long time employees and the department heads that really run the town every day. He saw his job as supporting those who really ran the operation. He set an example worth following for how a town councilman should behave.

Over the past seven years, he became a good friend. I didn’t think one of the results of getting involved in the Sanders presidential campaign in 2016 was an eighty year old man becoming a good friend, but that’s exactly what happened. Jerry and I would talk regularly, sometimes multiple times a day. Wasn’t always about town issues either.

I’m not big on having mentors or anything like that, but I really grew to respect Jerry Kaminski. I valued his opinion and looked to him for advice and thoughts beyond the work on the town board. He worked hard to set up a successful business and take care of his family. In so many areas of his life - as a father, spouse, public servant and citizen, he was a positive example of how to life a life with purpose and benefit for his community.

I’m gonna miss the guy, and not just because of the time I spent on the phone with him. Jerry probably told me a dozen times about the pig farms that used to be in town. I’m glad he shared those stories and others more than once. He shared knowledge and history of the town that helped me do my job as a councilman and then supervisor better than I otherwise could have.

The honor was mine to have Jerry serve Cheektowaga these past 13 months as Deputy Supervisor. He filled that role under three different Town Supervisors. Jerry Kaminski was a decent and honorable man that I am glad to have gotten to know. He was a friend to many and I know that there are folks all over that will miss him. Thanks for the memories and rest in peace, friend.

Statement from Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon on Buffalo
Pro Soccer’s Proposed Downtown Stadium Site Selection:

“I strongly support Buffalo Pro Soccer’s decision to select the former Buffalo News building and HSBC Atrium as their preferred site for their proposed new 10,000-seat United Soccer League (USL) stadium. Soccer is the fastest-growing sport in America and bringing more sports and entertainment attractions to downtown Buffalo is critical to our city’s continued growth.

“Securing state funding for this stadium is a priority in the city’s New York State legislative agenda as we work to reestablish downtown, following the Covid-19 pandemic as a safe, vibrant place where people can truly live, work, and play and be a destination for visitors.”
