Cameroon secured a vital 1-0 victory over Kenya in their 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium on Monday. The decisive moment came in the 63rd minute when Boris Enow struck a low free-kick from the edge of the box, beating the Kenyan defence and slotting the ball into the bottom right corner. With Cameroon dominating possession with 59% and making 466 passes with an 88% accuracy, their tenacity paid off, ensuring their place in the AFCON finals in Morocco.
In their historical matchups, Cameroon and Kenya have faced each other over 30 times in official competitions. In their last five meetings, Cameroon has won three, drawn one, and lost one, maintaining a strong record against the Harambee Stars.
Despite Kenya’s best efforts to equalize, including missed opportunities from Alphonce Omija and Michael Olunga, they couldn’t penetrate Cameroon’s well-organized defense. Captain Vincent Aboubakar and his team showed resilience and skill, leaving Kenya with an uphill battle in the remaining qualifiers.
This win keeps the Indomitable Lions at the top of Group J with 10 points, while Kenya remains third with four points. Zimbabwe, second with seven points, will face Namibia later. With this victory, Cameroon looks increasingly likely to secure early qualification for the tournament set to be held in Morocco next year. 🦁🇨🇲
