At the UK in Cameroon Residence, a diverse group of men, women, civil society organizations, stakeholders, and government institutions gathered to address the urgent need for action and support in the aftermath of gender-based violence (GBV).

His Excellency Matt Woods from the British High Commission opened the conference by presenting 16 key points relevant to the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This approach was inclusive and holistic, focusing on the six key pillars of GBV.

Justice Esther Ajuh emphasized the critical issue of women's inheritance rights, advocating for the inclusion of this vital topic in the seven-pillar agenda for GBV reform.

Dr. Asonganyi Etienne, an obstetrician and gynecologist, discussed the challenges of managing GBV in communities. He highlighted the importance of education in preventing unwanted pregnancies, noting that recorded cases in Kumba have increased by 400 victims per year, primarily among children aged 5 to 13.

Mokwe Welisane shed light on the pervasive issue of GBV in the workplace, detailing the psychological toll on victims and the systemic barriers that perpetuate these injustices. She also pointed out that women often support or remain passive about violence against women.

The discussions also addressed the alarming rise of technology-facilitated GBV, with ANTIC advocating for preventive and remedial measures to combat online harassment.

Cameroonian-Swiss curator Koyo Kouoh has been named curator of the 2026 Venice Art Biennale.
Kuoah, who is based in Cape Town, is the first African woman to be appointed to the role.
Kuoah's was recommended by the Biennale's newly appointed President Pietrangelo Buttafuoco.

Buttafuoco is the former leader of the youth wing of the neo-fascist Italian Social Movement party and has been an open supporter of the far-right Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.

Many in the art world speculated that the Biennale to move into a conservative and nationalistic era and away from its international focus.

Kuoah, who was born in Cameroon in 1967 was raised between Cameroon and Switzerland, is chief curator of South Africa's Zeitz Museum.
Between 2014 and 2022 ArtReview annually named Kouoh as one of the top 100 most influential people in the contemporary art world.

The late Nigerian art critic Okwui Enwezor was the first African-born curator of the Biennale in 2015.
The Biennale is one of the longest-running cultural festivals in the world, having started in 1895.
The festival now welcomes over 600,000 international visitors a year who flock to see the work of the world's top curators.
