The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that several life-threatening diseases, such as polio, measles, and river blindness, have been eliminated in many developing nations. This is a major breakthrough for public health and a testament to the efforts of global partnerships, vaccination campaigns, and community engagement. These diseases used to cause millions of deaths, disabilities, and suffering, especially among children and vulnerable populations. Now, thanks to the power of science and solidarity, we can celebrate a brighter future for humanity.
However, we cannot be complacent. These diseases still pose a threat in some regions, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where they are endemic and difficult to control. Onchocerciasis, or river blindness, is one of the leading causes of blindness in many African countries, affecting more than 99% of infected people. Polio and measles outbreaks still occur sporadically, putting millions of children at risk of paralysis and death. We need to continue our efforts to ensure that these diseases are eradicated from the face of the earth and that no one is left behind.

We are horrified and appalled by the massacre that took place in Mamfe, Southwest Region, on Sunday night. According to local sources, at least 20 civilians were killed and several others injured by armed men suspected to be Ambazonian separatists.
Among the victims were a nine-month pregnant woman who was r***d and shot, and many others who were burned alive in their houses.
This is one of the deadliest attacks in the ongoing Anglophone Crisis, which has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions.
We strongly condemn this atrocious act of terrorism and call for an end to the violence and bloodshed. We urge the authorities to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
We also express our deepest condolences and solidarity to the families and communities affected by this tragedy.

Today, we stand with journalists who risk their lives to bring us the truth. We demand justice for those who have been killed or attacked for doing their job.
Journalists are the eyes and ears of democracy. They expose corruption, human rights abuses, and injustice. But they also face violence, threats, and censorship. Too often, their attackers go unpunished.
On this day, we urge all states to uphold their duty to protect journalists and end impunity.
