Saturday Dumpling Co., a popular Minneapolis pop-up, is set to open its first permanent restaurant in a few weeks. 🎊🥟🎉

Co-founders Peter Bian and Linda Cao are preparing to launch the new fast-casual spot in early November in a space that was formerly home to Glam Doll Donuts located at 519 Central Ave NE in the Nicollet Island-East Bank neighborhood.

Starting as an online frozen dumpling business in 2021, Saturday Dumpling Co. quickly grew through weekend pickups, pop-ups, and local collaborations. The new counter-service restaurant will offer 45 indoor seats and a 10-seat patio, allowing more fans to experience their dumplings on-site.

The menu will feature steamed, pan-fried, and deep-fried dumplings with a variety of fillings, including pork, beef, chicken, and vegetarian options, plus a rotating monthly filling. Additional offerings include rice bowls, scallion pancake burritos, and là cháng sliders, with a deli case stocked with Chinese snacks, beverages, and frozen dumplings for home.

will initially be open Wednesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with plans to expand to daily hours in the future. Until the opening (and after the opening), customers can find their frozen dumplings at Dots Gray Kitchen, Wedge Co-op, and Bench Pressed.

New York-based luxury perfumery Le Labo is set to open its first Minnesota location next month in Minneapolis’ North Loop neighborhood.

Located in the historic Colonial Warehouse building at 212 3rd Ave N—formerly home to Outdoor Voices—Le Labo will bring its distinctive blend of French heritage and New York urban edge to the Twin Cities.

Founded in Grasse, the world capital of perfumery, and raised in New York City’s Nolita neighborhood, Le Labo first opened in 2006 with a mission to revive the art of “slow” perfumery. Le Labo, meaning “the lab” in French, became known for its artisanal, transparent approach: each fragrance is hand-blended and hand-assembled in-store, in front of customers, creating a highly personalized experience. This includes the option for each fragrance bottle to be labeled with the buyer’s name, date, and city, enhancing the unique connection between scent and individual.

Known for its complex, genderless fragrances, such as the cult favorite Santal 33, Le Labo also offers candles, sensorial body, hair, and face formulas, and a grooming line. The North Loop store is currently hiring a full-time lab technician, with roles listed in-store and on Estée Lauder’s career page.

will be located at 212 3rd Ave N Suite 109 in the North Loop neighborhood and is anticipated to open in mid-November.

04/07/2024

One of Downtown’s newest office to residential conversion projects officially has a name.

“Groove Lofts at Northstar Center” is what Sherman Associate’s new residential project will be known as, with the shorter version being just “Groove Lofts.” The project is under construction at the corner of S Sixth St and Second Ave S. in what was formerly known as “Northstar Center East.”

Groove Lofts will transform what previously was 13 stories of office space into 221 residential units ranging in size and including studio, one, and two-bedroom layouts. The property will also include a number of amenities including a rooftop club room with a midcentury-inspired record player, cinema, co-working lounge, maker’s studio, arcade, karaoke lounge, and VR game studio.

The rest of Northstar Center has been undergoing quite the transformation in recent years. Built in 1963, Northstar Center introduced the innovative idea of a “city-within-a-city” by spearheading the development of the Minneapolis Skyway system and incorporating/pioneering mixed-use design.

The property is currently being reimagined with work on Hotel Indigo, a new hotel that replaced the former Intercontinental Hotel, and Star Bar & Bistro, a new restaurant and bar, already being complete. Elsewhere in the center work is well underway on transforming Northstar Center West into 325,000 square feet of renovated and reimagined office space. In addition, new building amenities are being added that will truly be unique and found no where else downtown (more details coming soon.)

is anticipated to be complete this fall and will be located at 608 2nd Ave S in the Downtown West neighborhood.

15/05/2024

We’ve got an update to share with you all on the Minneapolis 2040 Plan. It’s moving forward again.

The Minneapolis 2040 Plan is back on track after a recent ruling by the Minnesota Court of Appeals, allowing the city to resume permitting multifamily housing developments.

This decision follows a legal battle initiated in 2018, which paused the plan in 2022 due to environmental concerns. The latest ruling overturns a District Court order and sets the stage for further legal proceedings, as one of the plaintiffs, Smart Growth Minneapolis, intends to appeal to the state Supreme Court. The dispute underscores the challenge of balancing urban development with environmental protection and affordable housing needs.

Meanwhile, the legislature has entered the fray, with a bill aimed at resolving the lawsuit passing the Minnesota House of Representatives, potentially offering clarity to cities statewide grappling with similar issues.

The outcome of this legal saga will shape Minneapolis’ development trajectory and housing affordability, with updates forthcoming.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Minneapolis 2040 Plan and the city’s real estate development scene at .

Get ready! The Mill District is getting a new restaurant and bar that specializes in Mexican Street Food. 🎉

La Madre will open later this summer on the street level of The Vicinity, a mixed-use building located at the corner of Washington and Park. The new restaurant and bar will occupy a prominent retail space along Washington Avenue that has been waiting for the right tenant to fill its space since the building was completed in 2019.

Abe Ponce Delgadillo, of La Tapatia in Roseville, is behind the restaurant and bar. La Madre will be an entirely new concept (but it will feature La Tapatia’s flagship salsas) and will serve chef-driven tacos, aguachile, ceviche, oysters, and a whole menu of agave based beverages among many others.

Designed by Studio M Architects , La Madre will offer a warm and inviting atmosphere where you can relax and savor every bite. 166 seats will be split between the dining room, bar, and patio (which will wrap the corner of the building), meaning there will be plenty of room for everyone. An expanded kitchen will also help support the restaurant’s catering business.

La Madre is anticipated to open in late August/early September at 205 Park Avenue in the Mill District neighborhood.
