I became a Friends fan later in life. It first came out when I was in middle school. I wasn't allowed to watch it.

Fast forward to college. I had a tons of friends who'd been watching it for years and followed the story line all the way through. But I had missed out.

I was a junior in college when the last episode aired. It hooked me. So I started watching from the beginning. I quickly became a Friends fan for life.

It was my comfort show. The show I turned on when I didn't know what to watch. The show I turned on when I was lonely. The one I turned on when I wanted background noise. It became my show. It took me years to catch on to the inside jokes. But I eventually got there.

But for me, it was all about Chandler Bing. He made the show. He had the best reactions. The best come backs. Oh what a gaping hole you're leaving in all who loved you and your humor. Truly, one of a kind.

Today is my favorite day of the whole year. It’s the day my best friend was born! And what a privilege to have spent 23 out of his FORTY birthdays with him! 🤍

He’s basically our everything. He’s the humor when we’re grumpy. The jokester when we’re sad and the solid, steady presence when we need it. He’s the best husband and dad we could ever ask for. And he’s all ours!

For the first time in 17 years, I taught summer school. I wasn’t totally excited to nor was I totally dreading it.

You guys.

It was such a wonderful 16 days of teaching and building relationships with new students and new co-workers. I made some amazing new teacher friends who will be lifelong friends. 🤍

I also was able to implement and teach it with fidelity and I saw actual growth in the area of phonics with struggling readers! It’s amazing!

Did I do it for the extra 🤑? Yes. But it ended up being good for my soul.

Eeeek!! If you watched my story from yesterday on how to get started, then you heard me mention bath mats and lap desks.

The has them in really fun bold neutral colors! I’m so excited!

has really helped me understand the basic, foundational phonological awareness principles that are *key* for struggling readers. Elkonin boxes -AKA: phoneme grapheme. This strategy allows students to not just read but understand phonemes and *how* we read and understand how phonics work.

When using UFLI 🎲 Roll and Read🎲 they use a phoneme grapheme map to not just read the words, but to determine the phonemes.

It’s the first time in 17 years I haven’t had a summer off. I decided to teach reading enrichment this summer. I cannot lie - I love it. 📚

I love helping struggling readers learn to read. It’s my favorite. 🤍

I do, however, come home and take some pretty serious naps. 😴 I’m not sure what it is about teaching in the summer that feels so much more exhausting. But I can’t complain, I get to wear matching earrings and headbands.

Life is good. 😎
