Want your business to be the top-listed Media Company?
Hi, my name is Cindy Staples, I am a retailer for Dixie Belle Paint Company. My story is unique because I would have never imagined that I would be a part of such a wonderful company. On Thanksgiving Day in 2015, I broke my pinky finger on my right hand; (and of course I am right handed). I like to consider my self a (toughie) and I refused to go to the emergency room, so I literally taped my pinky finger to my ring finger. After a couple of weeks, my finger turned an ugly shade of dark purple. At this point, I realized that I can no longer avoid the ER Department. Reluctantly I went, and the Doctor told me that she was certain that I had broke my finger. (I already knew this, lol) But, what was to come next surprised not only myself, but my ER staff. My condition was called a PATHOLOGICAL FRACTURE. In simple to understand terms, this meant that I had a tumor that had grown inside of my bone. Here comes the scary part... I was also told that my situation could be life or death and I needed to have emergency surgery. When most people think about the treatment for cancer, one is likely to imagine chemo and radiation. However, in the case of Bone Cancer, the treatment is usually done by amputation. I went into surgery on December 22, 2015. Just three days before Christmas. I was very uncertain of my outcome. I had just lost my parents back to back, and my only sibling was dying of cancer herself, so I really didn’t have a very positive outlook on life. I don’t remember how long I was in surgery, but I do remember waking up and looking at my right arm and praying that I still had my hand. I did, and I was still staring at all of the massive amount of brown gauze when my surgeon entered my room and told me that he did have to remove the bone in my pinky, but, he was able to replace that bone with a cadaver bone, and that my condition was called Chondrosarcoma. I was so thrilled, I will never find all the words to describe my joy that day, and my life only continues to get better. The fact that I had accidentally broke my finger that Thanksgiving Day, probably saved my life. That event has now opened up so many doors, that I sincerely believe would have never been possible. You see, I never had an interest in painting. Every once in awhile I would contribute to the garbage collection when one of my children would ask me to do a Paint-By-Number with them. As I was heeling, my surgeon told me to find an activity that would force me to bend and use my new finger. My oldest daughter suggested that we painted. We headed out to the craft store in search of a paint-by-number but the only selection was very child like. She talked me into buying some canvas and a set of very cheap acrylics. I really did not want to spend much money, as I already knew that painting was not my thing, but when I took a brush to the canvas, my entire life started to change. With every stroke of the brush, I was creating art, and I was having fun. I started taking online classes and got really brave one day and shared my creations with Facebook. Imagine my surprise when I started getting offered cash for my paintings. My love for painting has grown immensely over the years, and so has my canvas.
In June of 2017, my business partner and life long best friend, Dan Hopper, and I decided to start repurposing furniture. Our quest to find quality paint at an affordable price led us to Dixie Belle Paint Company. We love their product so much that we decided to share our love with our community by becoming a retailer. We are located inside of Vintage Treasures Antique Mall. Booth #822. Next to the Blue Consignment Room. Thanks for reading my story and lets get painting.
