In Surrey, @oliverleecharchitects designs a compact one-storey garden suite with a striking butterfly roof for the geologist mother of his client. With its blackened envelope, origami-style green roof (expressed visually as a butterfly configuration, hence the project’s name), the 94-square-metre home was designed to fit as discreetly as possible into the triangular site at the bottom of the garden and prevent direct views in or out of it. Sculptural and serene, this design is well-crafted, considered and uplifting, countering any elderly-living or accessible-design tropes with a deftness of touch. Read more via the link in bio.

And that’s a wrap on @idstoronto 2024! At this year’s Interior Design Show hosted in our home city, we were wowed by innovative new products and practices from North America and beyond — from the immersive Future Neighbourhood installations built to inspire conversation about good design in light of Toronto’s housing crisis, to Modern Prefab’s high-design tiny cabins and so much more.
Thank you to everyone who attended AZURE’s Trade Day talks and lectures, including an inspiring panel moderated by Editor-in-Chief @lizpagliacolo on sustainability and the changing climate with panelists Joshua Belczyk (@jbelcz), Vanessa Fong (@vfongv), Brian Porter (@briankporter) and Martha del Junco. Senior Editor @novakovicto discussed architecture photography with experts Ema Peter (@emaphotographi) and Younes Bounhar (@younesbounhar), @lizpagliacolo interviewed design legend and founder of Salone Satellite, Marva Griffin, and Senior Editor @erkmu closed out the day with a talk and fiery demo by @oskarzieta of Zieta Studio.
