It’s not too late to see Monroe County Civic Theater’s 35th annual Shakespeare in the Park! This year‘s play is The Comedy of Errors. There are still two showings left, Saturday, June 8 at 7 PM and Sunday, June 9 at 2 PM. The performance is free, although donations are accepted in person and online, and there is a large playground nearby for the younger crowd if they struggle to sit during the performance. Bring your own chair or a blanket for the lawn to enjoy this great performance.

Ellettsville now has a farmers market! Chandler funeral home has made vendor spaces available on their property for 15 vendors each week this summer. The location is right on 46 in Ellettsville, so it’s easy to find, and there’s lots of free nearby parking. Vendors offer a variety of baked goods and homemade items, with local produce coming soon. Hours are 9am-1pm, but get there early for the best selection, as three vendors were almost sold out by 10am the first week of the market. There is no dedicated page or social media for the market, but you can visit the Chandler Funeral Home page or website for updates.

Visit the The Smithville, Indiana Farmers' Market this summer! They have great vendors, like the Schneider kids, who run their own shave ice booth. Other vendors offer local eggs, produce, baked goods, handmade items, plants, and more. Parking is plentiful, there is a playground next to the vendor space, and it’s not far from Lake Monroe if you were planning to go swimming, boating, or hiking. A great way to spend part of your Saturday morning.

Due to recent heavy rains that have raised the water level, we will be delaying the opening of our swimming beaches at both Paynetown and Fairfax SRAs. Beaches will be CLOSED for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Seawalls at both beaches are currently underwater, posing a safety hazard, and we cannot prep the sand until water levels drop sufficiently (the majority of the sand at both locations is currently under the water).

Please note that the beachhouses also remain closed at both locations; they will open when the beaches open.

We will open the beaches as soon as conditions allow. Please understand that we cannot provide an exact date in advance, as we must wait to see what happens to the water level.

Today from 12-3pm we are waiving adoption fees for all available dogs!

We are overcapacity and are doing our best to make space where space does not physically exist. Please consider adding a furry friend to your family!

If you are interested in helping but can't commit to adoption, we will happily orient you into our foster program! Please reach out to our shelter manager Robyn to join our foster team! [email protected]

Locally grown strawberries!! 🍓

It's time! Strawberries are ripening everyday and we currently have 8 quarts for sale. We have a form below for you to fill out to put your name in for quarts you would like to purchase between now and when the Bethel Lane Farm Stop opens (where the berries will be for sale daily as they are available). We will also have them at Bloomington Community Farmers' Market and Woolery Farmers' Market (which we will be missing this weekend due to weddings, track meets and preparations for opening the farm stop for the season).
