For a few police officers in upstate NY, Christmas 1974 is indelibly etched in their memories. The blustery winter night began with a state trooper colleague being critically injured by a drunk driver, ironically, while he was investigating a separate drunk driving crash. Then officers respond to another crash that claimed the lives of a family, the victims trapped within the fiery wreck. Some of those officers are diverted to an urgent maternity call, arriving to find a woman ready to give birth - but no ambulances are available. In this special “Behind the Badge” episode of APB Cold Case, former Fulton PD officers Lt./Retired Larry Mullen and Capt./Retired Arlen Cline share their memories of a dramatic night and how they maneuvered from the horror of one of the worst tragedies of their careers to the joy of delivering twin babies into the world.

LOOSE ENDS: Where is Leona Kinsey? (2 episodes)
In 1999, a 45-year-old Oregon woman disappears without a trace. Her purse, pager, eyeglasses and beloved dog are left behind, but her vehicle is missing. Did she leave on her own? Was she abducted? Could she have been targeted by the Mexican drug cartel? This intriguing story is told by a daughter who is a passionate advocate in search of her mother, and by an undaunted cop who said this is the case that nags at him – a “loose end” that demands an answer.

SOMEONE’S AT THE DOOR: Who Killed Stephen Spina?
A single father is alone at home in his apartment when someone comes to his door. Police say it appears Stephen Spina was ambushed, stabbed repeatedly and left to die in a pool of blood. He is soon discovered by his girlfriend who comes to meet him for lunch. When police arrive on the scene they are shocked – they know the victim! Police have investigated Spina’s murder for 16 years, sifting through interviews, evidence, and motives – their investigation is focused, but they need something more.

SHE CAN’T JUST BE GONE: Where is Brittany Williams?
In 2000, a 7-year-old girl with AIDS had mysteriously vanished. When the caregiver she was entrusted to claimed not to know where she was, authorities demanded answers. But since the child's disappearance, there have been no answers. A passionate Virginia prosecutor charged the caregiver with fraud for stealing benefits intended for the little girl, but he said, “That just can’t be the end of this story.” Can you help find Brittany Williams?

UNSOLVED HOMICIDE: What began as an exciting adventure for 19-year-old Tracy Onawa Jones, became a nightmare when she vanished from North Little Rock, Arkansas on Nov 15, 2006. Her brutalized body was found 11 days later in a ditch on the side of a road in Memphis, Tennessee. It appears that she died closer to the time that she was found so, I can’t even begin to imagine the horrors she endured during those days that she was held captive. In the APB Cold Case podcast episode about Tracy's case, host Mark Spawn retraces her last movements… Listen to this episode at https://apbcoldcase.com/tracy-onawa-jones-1 or on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts.

CUTTING FOR SIGN - We are producing a segment about detectives who used the tracking technique referred to as "cutting for sign" where the tracker looks for physical disturbances in the environment to trace movements. Anyone familiar with this technique? We found a case in Mohave, AZ from the 1990's in which 2 detectives analyzed tire tracks and footprints at a murder scene. We want to take an in-depth look into this topic.

This coming Sunday marks the 55th anniversary of a tragedy that struck near my hometown in Oneida, NY. Officer Robert Mumford and Chief Thomas Reilly of the Sherrill PD were shot after stopping a suspicious man matching the description of a robbery suspect in Canastota, NY. The killer sped off to a neighboring community where he kidnapped a young mother and her two babies, then fled to Syracuse.

We travelled to Sherrill to speak with the witnesses and families of those impacted by the one-night crime wave, their stories forever etched in their minds.
