As always, 'Roots and More' airs on 'Fat Tuesday', the final day of Carnival in New Orleans, so I'll be playing several Cajun and zydeco tunes in recognition of Mardi Gras. I'll also be playing songs by many of the artists who'll be performing at next weekend's Back Porch Festival 2025 in Northampton. In addition, I'll be recognizing the birthdays of Townes Van Zandt, Wes Montgomery, Doc Watson, and Peter Wolf. We'll also hear tunes from recent releases by Christina Vane, Olive Klug, Chatham Rabbits, Max Wareham, GA 20, Shelby Means, and Miss Tess. That's a lot to fit into 2 hours, but I think I can do it! I'll also be recognizing the birthdays of Nina Simone, Smokey Robinson, Rhiannon Giddens, and Irma Thomas. Tomorrow on 'Roots and More' I'll be recognizing the birthdays of Rosa Parks, Bob Marley, Tom Rush, Barrett Strong, Al Kooper, and Hal Blaine. We'll also hear a tune from the Flying Burrito Brothers album 'Gilded Palace of Sin' which was released this week in 1969, and one from Neil Young's 'Harvest' which was released on Feb. 1st, 1972. In addition, we'll hear recent releases by The Devil Makes Three, multiple Grammy winner Sierra Ferrell, Heather Maloney, Jason Isbell, and Willow Avalon. Tomorrow on Roots and More I'll be playing one set of tunes whose titles have a little something to do with Halloween. I'll also be playing a few Grateful Dead songs written and sung by Phil Lesh, longtime bass player for the Dead who died last Friday at the age of 74. I'll be recognizing the birthdays this week of Grace Slick, Peter Green, k.d. lang, Ben Harper, and Lyle Lovett. We'll also hear a tune from the Creedence album 'Willie and the Poor Boys" which was released Oct. 29th, 1969. Plus, we'll hear songs from several recently released albums, including the new one from Amythyst Kiah.
