Silent Yachts is going to exhibit its new SY62 3-Deck Open at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2024 (October 30 - November 3), marking the solar electric catamaran’s US premiere (Silent Yachts’ location is G-721, G Dock, Bahia Mar).

It builds on the successful platform of the SY62, offering an open-sided third deck for entertaining and flexible accommodation. A sleek hardtop provides shade to an area that offers 60 square metres of space for the owners to configure as they please. From deep sofas to dining tables; bar space, gym equipment, even a whirlpool bath – the possibilities are endless.

“The SY62 3-Deck is proving successful with boat owners, and the first Open version showcases the benefits of the extra space up top,” said Silent Yachts CEO Fabrizio Iarrera. “With tight lines, more than 240 square meters of usable deck space and sharp, contemporary styling, this really is a compact superyacht. That it runs on electricity and has a large solar array is the icing on the cake.”

Zeelander Yachts launches its stylish new mini superyacht Zeelander 8

- Zeelander’s new flagship measures 23.9m (79ft) LOA
- 40-knot top speed but exceptionally quiet
- Up to 9 guests can sleep on board in full comfort
- Extensive opportunities to customize layout and finish in living areas
- Full beam tender garage
Zeelander Yachts has added an exceptional new flagship to its collection, following the launch of the 23.9-meter (79ft) Zeelander 8.

It was a significant moment for the boutique builder that chooses to build just a handful of peerless yachts every year for discerning clients. The Zeelander 8 is the largest yacht ever built by Zeelander, but it is also a close development of the existing product line, which starts at 14.7m (48ft). The mini superyacht sports the voluptuous lines, effortless power and whisper quiet operation for which Zeelander is renowned.

“Our newest model, the Zeelander 8, surpasses its on-paper expectations, showcasing an even more impressive presence in real life. Its timeless design remains uniquely Zeelander, blending classic elegance with modern innovation,” said founder and owner Sietse Koopmans.

Every Zeelander model is a work of art in a state of constant evolution. So, for all the family resemblance, the new Zeelander 8 has a prominent flowing sheerline. Its gracefully raked stern and wrap-around windscreen will be familiar to admirers of the brand, and you will struggle to find a plain, straight line anywhere about the exterior.

It is a testament to the design team that the Zeelander 8 shares the same perfect proportions as its smaller sisters, despite that impressive length. Designer Cor D. Rover’s experienced touch is evident, alongside that of Zeelander’s dedicated in-house designers. At deck-level, the extra volume means more space for both a dedicated relaxing area and a large dining table with wrap-around seating. Then, below deck, there is a breathtaking full-beam owner’s cabin amidships plus two further guest doubles, all with ensuite bathrooms. The Zeelander 8 combines a superyacht soul with a sub-24m (79ft) hull.

OTAM 90 GTS M/Y “SEXY ME”

A MASTERPIECE OF ELEGANCE AND COMFORT

- An elegant, balanced, essential and timeless yacht with a design that embodies the essence of OTAM
- During sea trials, the new 28-meter Italian yacht achieved a top speed of 45.4 knots, surpassing the contractual 42 knots
- The waterlines are designed by Umberto Tagliavini and Aldo Scorzoni Marine Design & Services
- The sleek and sporty design is by Giuseppe Bagnardi of the BG Design Firm
The OTAM 90 GTS “SEXY ME” is the latest creation from the renowned Italian shipyard, which garnered significant acclaim during its official world debut at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival

“Celebrating our 70th anniversary with a project like the OTAM 90 GTS and with a client so decisive in their requests has been the best gift we could receive," explains Matteo Belardinelli, Sales and Communication Manager at OTAM. "It was another opportunity to take on the challenge of customizing a very fast boat, where even shifting 50 kilograms from starboard to port can have a significant impact. These are the kinds of challenges that allow us to evolve and grow."

Comfort, space, and style blend seamlessly in the luxurious 28-meter yacht with outstanding performance. The combination of two powerful 2,600-horsepower MTU engines, Arneson surface propellers and a hull meticulously designed by Umberto Tagliavini and Aldo Scorzoni of Marine Design & Services has allowed the new OTAM 90 GTS “SEXY ME” to achieve an impressive maximum speed of 45.4 knots, exceeding the contracted speed of 42 knots.

Ferretti Yachts presents INFYNITO 80: new horizons to push beyond imagination.

“Meet your imagination” is the concept behind the second model in the INFYNITO range: Ferretti Yachts INFYNITO 80 opens up new horizons in a limitless journey.

Visual continuity between interiors and exteriors, innovative layouts and versatility are the main characteristics of this yacht, which has more covered outdoor space than the segment average.

A new model extends the INFYNITO range, opening up new horizons and taking the cruising experience to a superior level. Ferretti Yachts INFYNITO 80, the model presented at the last Cannes Yachting Festival, joins INFYNITO 90 and embodies the range’s signature characteristics: environmental friendliness, unprecedented flexibility and innovative layouts. The stand-out highlight is the iconic All-Season Terrace, a much-loved architectural feature and the winner of some prestigious awards.

INFYNITO 80 offers numerous new features, including the possibility of choosing between an open or semi-open sundeck, and the sheer size – above-average for the segment – of the outdoor surface areas covered and protected by the hard top or
superstructure.

With a length overall of 23.70 metres (77ft 9in) and a maximum beam of 6.32 meters (20ft 9in), Ferretti Yachts INFYNITO 80 is the result of collaboration between the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, with exterior design by architect Filippo Salvetti and interiors by Ideaitalia.

This second model in the Ferretti Yachts range also features F.S.E.A. technology (Ferretti Sustainable Enhanced Architecture), a package of environmentally friendly cruising solutions. They include a fast displacement hull optimised to improve fuel consumption efficiency and minimise environmental impact (while maintaining high levels of performance), a special focus on the use of green materials (such as natural fabrics, regenerated leather, recyclable materials, ecological water-based paints and lamellar teak with FSC 5 certification), and an integrated system that stores the solar energy collected by the photovoltaic panels installed on the hard top and on the roof of the All-Season Terrace in an Energy Bank, for enjoying life on board in ‘hotel mode’ for up to 8 hours at anchor.

Seconds in it but J Class Svea completes title hat trick at Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup

By winning the second and final coastal race of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup by only a handful of seconds, the highly polished crew of the Swedish J Class yacht Svea won the Super Maxi division overall.

After finishing second on the first coastal race behind the successful Swan 115 Moat – winner at the regatta last year and at the summer’s Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta on the same Costa Smeralda waters, Svea clinched the overall title on count back. Even then the overall class victory was down to their slender winning margin of just 28-seconds earned over the 31-nautical miles course clockwise around La Maddalena and Cabrera islands.

Svea finished second on the first coastal race which was won by the big NautorSwan, only just pipping the persistent Velsheda by 17-seconds after a thrilling head to head all the way around the route through the beautiful La Maddalena Islands archipelago. The pinnacle regatta was blighted somewhat by the strong Mistral which blew through most of the week, allowing only these two races to be contested.

After two days of waiting the first coastal was on Wednesday morning in perfect conditions – starting in 11kts, peaking at 13kts but the breeze fading to seven - whilst Saturday’s finale was a test of crew work and speed in the brisk conditions, 13-24kts of W’ly wind meaning a beat up the so called ‘bomb alley’ and broad reach down the outside of the islands to finish back off Porto Cervo on the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda finish line.

After winning the J Class twice in a row, in 2022 and 2023, this is Svea’s third successive victory at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.

Svea’s boat captain Paul Kelly enthused “Today [Saturday] we managed to extend on Velsheda all the way up and around the top but on the downwind they had some serious, serious boat speed. We thought they were going to roll us at the finish but we managed to hold them off. It was enough for the overall win, three years in a row we are super, super happy. Time on water is key for us and having a game plan and sticking to it. That is what we do. Moat was gone on the reach but we ate into her on corrected time.”

Tom Dodson, tactician on Velsheda reported, “We had a clean day today [Saturday] but we got our timing wrong before the start and Svea got a much better start than we did, on our bow. We had a sniff of Svea up the first short beat – at 1.8 miles it was pretty short and so it was only a sniff, we got to the layline too quickly and from there it was just trying to see if we could keep it tight and wait for them to make a mistake. We got into them a little on the downwind. Once the boat speed is over 11kts, Velsheda is enjoying it, but it was one of those courses where you could catch up but unless you could find somewhere to catch up there would always be a corner they could push you back into.”

“It is a shame but I think the race committee did the best they could, it was always going to be tight to get more than a couple of races in. They did that and looking after these boats is pretty important too, you don’t want to be out there breaking gear or people.”

All eyes on the J Class Barcelona Regatta 2024 now, taking place 5-11 October.

Ibiza JoySail surpasses expectations and closes off Mediterranean superyacht season in style

The fourth edition of Ibiza JoySail surpassed expectations on all levels. The largest ever number of entries with eighteen superyachts registered, the biggest superyacht to ever take part in the event, some fantastic racing and a hospitality programme for 400 participants, sponsors and organisers.

With close action on the water across all five classes, and over half of the fleet sailing in Corinthian mode, competition was intense. However, rivalry on the water was balanced with a relaxed atmosphere on shore, and this has become one of the signature highlights of Ibiza JoySail.

For Tony Rey, the tactician on Maximus, the 195ft German Frers twin-masted ketch, it was his first time at Ibiza JoySail. “Aside from the fact that this [Ibiza] is one of the most spectacular places to sail, in Europe and almost the world, this is my first time at Ibiza JoySail, and it is magnificent. Our team loves it, our owner is having a fantastic time, the parties are fun. It has everything that you could ask for. Ibiza JoySail has delivered every day, and hopefully we will come back next year.”

Maximus was sailing in the Performance class with the Italian-flagged Reichel Pugh Nautic 100 Morgana and Moat, the Swan 115, who topped the results in their class making a total of four class wins from their four Ibiza JoySail events.

Juan Ball, the owner of Moat, commented on arriving at Marina Ibiza after racing on the final day: “This year was important as there are now more boats, so there is more competition, and it gets more difficult. This year the organisation was excellent, fantastic days of competition and seeing all these boats, in all these different sizes today, you don’t see it anywhere else.” Commenting on Moat’s four wins in the Performance class in four editions of Ibiza JoySail, he added: “The secret is the group that we have on the boat. We are a bunch of friends who respect each other, we help each other and we have a good time. There is only one life.”

In the two World Cruising Classes, first-time entry Swan 100 L’Hippocampe won the World Cruising L class, with three bullets in each of the three races, it was a good day in the office for the team despite strong opposition from Nostromo and Alarife Cien.

Ella Holmes, Boat Captain of L’Hippocampe “We are sailing really well as a team, this is the third regatta we have done together this year, and it is really coming together. It has been a really enjoyable social event. That is why we come to these regattas, to have a good time and get some good results as well.”

In World Cruising XL, the Dubois 120, Bliss held on to its overall lead with a third win, ahead of fellow Corinthian entry, the Spanish-flagged Dystra 111, Aurelius. Gitana, the Dubois 147, completed the podium in this super-sized class.

The owner of Bliss, Andrew Downe, commented: “It was a fantastic day, we actually thought we wouldn’t get there today as it was lighter winds today, and we were genuinely surprised when we saw the results. Every day racing was actually really close, we were lucky this time, but there were only ever 3-4 minutes over a two to three hours in each race. It was really competitive, and everyone had a good time as well.“

In the two Performance Cruising Classes, consistent performances by the SY 108 Hybrid Gelliceaux, and the Baltic Yachts Café Racer, Open Season meant the top podium spot in the Perfomance Cruising L and Performance M classes, respectively. None of these first-time entries in Ibiza JoySail were disappointed either with the event.

Thomas Bascher, the owner of Open Season commented: “It is always nice to win, but that is not the reason to come. I have to say that in 25 years of sailing big boats, this is the nicest, and best organised event I have ever been to. This is something really special, the effort that everybody put in, is just great, that is more important than the result.”

The Corinthian spirit that underlines this event was evident on the podium positions with seven of the fifteen podiums places going to Corinthian entries. “This Corinthian element is very important to us. For some owners, taking part in some of the bigger superyacht events can be very daunting, and the strong Corinthian spirit that we have here underlines what we set out to do at the start of Ibiza JoySail.

This is further reinforced by Campbell Field who acted as coach on the Corinthian entry Ammonite: “I was invited to come along and race with the Ammonite and the crew - this is their first regatta racing event. We have three simple rules on the boat – safety, having fun and competitiveness, and we are ticking all of those. It is a pleasure sailing with people who want to learn, and I hope I can help them as much as they want. Our ambition was to dip our toe in the water and see how it went, and so far, it is going pretty well!”

The balance of on water competition and on shore activities make for a great atmosphere in the hospitality area at Marina Ibiza. With more than 400 people making up the crews cross the 18 boats, guests and organisers, the evenings offer relaxed enjoyment, and an opportunity make the most of the Ibiza ‘vibe’ after the day’s competition.

It is this balance between competitive racing during the day and a relaxed friendly environment on shore, has seen Ibiza JoySail grow from just four yachts in the first edition to 18, in just four years.

Jesper Bank, who was part of the crew on the Dubois 100, Nostromo, commented: “Ibiza JoySail creates the perfect atmosphere where people can mingle, a very nice setting, and good, well considered racing. It is not complicated and is easily accessible. I think some of the bigger events should keep a close look on what they are doing. It feels relaxed and the atmosphere is relaxed, and speaking for myself, I really enjoy that.”

The closing event at the 2024 Ibiza JoySail was a prizegiving event in the main hospitality area. As well as prizes awarded in each of the five classes, a Perpetual Trophy for the record between Punta Cala Figuera, Mallorca to Tagomago Island, Ibiza was awarded to Maximus who completed the 48nm passage in 3hours and 31 minutes.

An event of the standard of Ibiza JoySail cannot be run without the support of a wide range of partners and institutions that have been advocating for Ibiza JoySail since it was first established. Technical and logistical support has been provided by a group of leading technical marine companies, North Sails who set up a temporary sail loft for repairs from across the fleet; RigPro who have supported in all rigging requirements; Global Yachting Ibiza who have provided the chase boat support fleet for race organisation, media and VIP guests; and Yacht Moving, which has supported teams with all logistics support for the competition: while, once again, Ibiza Island Council and Ibiza Town Council continue to be stalwart supporters.

The dates for Ibiza JoySail 2025, the fifth edition of the event, have been confirmed as 18th - 21st September 2025.

A new era dawns for Wally as the new wallywind110 makes her world debut at Monaco Yacht Show 2024

- wallywind110 presented for the first time at the Monaco Yacht Show
- judel/vrolijk & co lines for peerless performance
- All carbon lay-up
- Huge cockpit and comfortable cruising interior

Monaco – 27 September 2024 - The first sailing yacht in Wally’s new wallywind collection, Galma, debuted at Monaco Yacht Show 2024 (25-28 September). The jaw-dropping wallywind110 is the largest to have been delivered since the Ferretti Group took the helm at Wally, and she is evidence of the company’s commitment to sailing with a second hull already in build.

“Ever since Wally came into the universe of Ferretti Group, it has carried on being Wally,” explains Avv. Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group Chief Executive Officer. “The point is to keep creating yachts that are completely different than the rest of the yachts in the sailing world. With the wallywind110, we’ve managed to introduce something that is distinct: the boats are completely customisable staying true to Wally’s tradition, but with Ferretti Group industrial approach, so no two will ever look the same".

Wallywind is a story that began in 2022, with the concept for a series of high-performance sailing yachts from 110- 150ft LOA. In this first model, all the brand’s famous sailing DNA is on display, allying quintessentially minimal Wally lines with slick performance and the features of larger yachts.

A RECORD-BREAKING RIVA: 70 METRES OF INCREDIBLE BEAUTY

The shipyard announces the construction at the Ferretti Group Superyachts Yard of the first Riva 70 Metri, the largest Riva flagship superyacht in the brand’s history.

Ancona, September 27, 2024 – It is the first Riva 70 Metri, the largest flagship superyacht in Riva's history; over 180 years of challenges and successes of the shipyard that brought elegance to modern yachting.

The superyacht stands out for her state-of-the-art technology solutions, refined design and peerless comfort.

With innovative volumes, elegant lines, a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, Riva 70 Metri combines excellent performance and environmental sustainability in the form of latest generation hybrid propulsion, heat recovery technology and a PTO/PTI system, setting a cutting-edge standard for sustainable yacht making. Great emphasis was also placed on on-board acoustic comfort, thanks to the use of innovative solutions for reducing noise and vibration levels and improving the stabilisation system.

The owner, a loyal Riva customer and a great fan of the brand, worked with the design team to turn a dream into reality, creating a superyacht that, like all Rivas in recent years, is the result of collaboration between Officina Italiana Design, the firm founded by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department.

“Riva 70 Metri promises to set the bar for thrilling experiences in the years to come. She’s a superyacht of timeless beauty that will take the magnificent universe of Riva’s style features and detailing into a new dimension, combining it with cutting-edge navigation and environmental sustainability technology,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “A manifesto of style, design and innovation, this spectacular flagship will lead the fantastic fleet of new Riva
masterpieces with majestic elegance.”

Maximus sets Ibiza JoySail Mallorca to Ibiza race record

Ibiza, 5 September 2024. Superyacht racers who have been heading to Ibiza JoySail have always had the opportunity to attempt the record from Punta Cala Figuera, Mallorca to Tagomago island, Ibiza. However, until this 2024 edition of Ibiza JoySail, these records have been set in ‘race’ conditions and the records have been relatively modest.

But for 2024, with the regatta offering four instead of three days of coastal racing, the Mallorca to Ibiza record for a Perpetual Trophy has become an ‘added value’ challenge for all registered entrants. The organizers have now opened an opportunity so that crews can now carefully choose their own time window to dash between the beautiful Balearic Islands any time 30 days before Ibiza JoySailracing begins.

It was with this backdrop that on Friday last week, Maximus, the 195ft German Frers built by Vitters in Holland, created a new Ibiza JoySail record for the passage completing the 48-nautical mile passage in 3hours and 31 minutes having kept a close lookout for the best weather window, mustering the 24-strong crew in Palma, late on the Friday afternoon.

The afterguard of Maximus shared opinions with the team on what would be a good opportunity weather-wise, and they saw a potential weather window developing, so kept a close eye on it.

Lars Loftus, who was the skipper of Maximus for the record, continues: “As we drew nearer all the models started to differ and we nearly pulled the pin, but one model we had moderate confidence in showed a good chance, so we took it.
“It was a bit tricky as we started, as we had to wait for the sea breeze to get killed off by the gradient breeze, so we waited for a couple of hours and eventually started early evening, in fairly light conditions. We did wonder if we might have started a bit prematurely, however we then sailed into the steadier gradient averaging 14k on the way across - so were able to make up for the lighter winds at the start. The boat went sublimely, and we had the code zero up as we raced across the line - it was a lovely run across.”

“We are now back in Palma and the team is very much looking forward to Ibiza JoySail in a couple of weeks. It will be the first time for me as skipper and being able to compete against boats close to our size will be really nice. Added to that, four days of racing instead of three, is a real bonus.”

For the 19 other boats registered for Ibiza JoySail, the window to look to break the time set by Maximus remains open, closing at midnight on Thursday 19 September.
