Vialattea one of Europe’s largest and most renowned Italian-French ski resorts, is excited to announce its plans for the 2024/25 ski season. Set to open on Friday 06 December, and running through to Sunday 13 April 2025, 2024/2025 marks the destinations longest season to date.

The 2024/2025 season will see the introduction of an expanded operating schedule, running for 129 days across five months, from Friday 06 December to Sunday 13 April. From 19 October 2024, season passes will be available for purchase, including a new combined Vialattea and Bardo season pass, valid on all slopes in the Vialattea ski area and neighbouring Bardonecchia. Additionally, those who purchase a 6-day Vialattea ski pass will receive a complimentary one-day extension to Bardonecchia. Building on last season’s success, the ticketing system has been upgraded with 7 new state-of-the-art ‘smart points’ across the region, enabling 24/7 automated and independent ski pass purchases.

Those looking to get ahead on their ski pass purchase can enjoy discounted rates until Monday 11 November, with Single Season Passes available for just EUR 900 until this date, and further discounts available for Family Season Passes. Full details of ski pass prices for the season, including daily and weekly passes, are now available on the Vialattea website.

In response to the changing climate, Vialattea has extended 8,900 meters of snowmaking lines in the Alpette – Borgata and Lower Banchetta Sectors, ensuring snow-covered slopes even at lower altitudes. The installation of advanced snow generators will improve ski-ability by enabling faster snow production while reducing energy consumption. This initiative supports Vialattea’s commitment to sustainability, already demonstrated by its use of 100% renewable energy, which cuts CO2 emissions by around 2,900 tonnes annually.

Vialattea’s 2025 season promises an action-packed lineup of events, kicking off in mid-January with the World University Games Winter-Ski Mountaineering. This is followed by the Audi FIS Ski World Cup on February 22-23, where elite athletes will compete in Giant Slalom and Slalom events. From March 10-15, the Special Olympics World Winter Games Alpine Skiing will showcase inspiring athletes an international demonstration of inclusion, acceptance and unity while the Kelemata PL3 Trophy Races (March 22-23) will spotlight the next generation of ski talents. The season will culminate in the 42nd edition of the iconic ‘Uovo d’Oro’ (Golden Egg) on March 29-30, a beloved event for young athletes, marking a thrilling conclusion to the winter sports calendar.

For the ultimate mountain experience, look no further than Vialattea this season.

Exclusive to Ski Safari - Ski Better in 2025 with Free Private Lessons in Norway in January
Ski Safari is convinced that Norway is the best place to progress your skiing and snowboarding and that private lessons are the right way to do it. So we’ve teamed up with three Norwegian resorts - Gausta, Myrkdalen and Voss - to offer free private lessons in January 2025.

When booking a seven night holiday to Gausta, Myrkdalen or Voss on select dates in January 2025, customers will receive one free private lesson per person (100 or 120 minutes) to use as they wish.

Norway Product Manager (and former ski instructor), Andy Hemingway, says: “Many people start out with a few lessons to learn the basics and then never see an instructor again. While the lessons we’re offering can be used to learn to ski or snowboard from scratch, we think existing skiers and boarders will benefit the most from a private lesson tailored to them that can focus on refining their existing skills and allow them to try new techniques too.”

It’s something we’re passionate about here at Ski Safari; helping our customers to get the most out of their ski holidays based on our first-hand experience. With new skills learned, we feel they won’t just have more fun on the snow, they’ll also significantly increase the type of terrain they’re able to access by opening up new parts of the mountain that they wouldn’t have previously felt confident enough to explore.

Andy Hemingway continues: “Norway’s forgiving terrain and snow-sure conditions make it the perfect place to enhance your skills - which could include venturing off-piste for the first time. The country’s excellent English-speaking instructors are some of the best in the world and well-placed to move your skills to the next level.”

Free Private Lessons

Customers will receive one private lesson (120 minutes in Gausta, 100 minutes in Myrkdalen and Voss) per person to use as they choose, with options for all abilities from complete beginners taking their first turns to more adventurous skiers looking to enhance their skills on or off piste.

Mixed ability groups can take individual 1-2-1 lessons, while skiers of similar levels can combine their lesson allowance and receive two free private lessons.

As they are private, these ski school lessons are flexible and tailored to ability. Customers can work on any weaknesses or new skills as they choose: the basics, parallel turns, carving, steeps, off-piste, freestyle or snowboarding.

The free private lesson offer is only available for seven night bookings to Gausta, Myrkdalen and Voss departing on 05, 12, 19 and 26 January 2025. Subject to instructor availability on a first-come first-served basis.

Gausta

One of Norway’s best-kept secrets, Gausta is an up-and-coming ski resort offering truly unique skiing and sightseeing experiences you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

Gausta ski holidays offer everything you’d expect in Norway - exceedingly high levels of service, ski-in ski-out accommodation, terrain for all abilities and an excellent ski school. But it’s perhaps best known for the iconic Gaustatoppen mountain which towers over the resort. You can take a secret train up through the mountain and then ski back down - an experience you’ll never forget.

How much? 7 nights self-catered at the 3* Lake View Cabins from £1,035pp based on 4 adults sharing a Three Bedroom Cabin, departing 05 January 2025. Price includes return flights to Oslo, train and private transfers, and one private lesson per person. (01273 224060, https://ow.ly/v1oK50TSfHP)

Myrkdalen

Relatively undiscovered and blissfully uncrowded, Myrkdalen offers gentle, quiet slopes for beginners and untracked off-piste for the adventurous.

If you’re an expert skier, don’t let the small number of runs put you off - there’s more off-piste terrain than you might expect. For beginners, the quiet slopes are ideal for building confidence, while intermediates can look forward to some of Europe’s best snow on the wide cruisey runs. Make sure you take a day off the slopes to visit the stunning fjords nearby!

How much? 7 nights self-catered at the 4* Myrkdalen Apartments from £690pp based on 4 adults sharing a Two Bedroom Apartment, departing 05 January 2025. Price includes return flights to Bergen, shared transfers, and one private lesson per person. (01273 224060, https://ow.ly/v1oK50TSfHP). Plus, receive 2 for 1 lift passes in January - cheapest pass is free.

Voss

Just 30 minutes from Myrkdalen, also in the heart of Western Norway’s fjords, Voss combines a fantastic all-abilities ski area with a buzzing historic town, connected by a state-of-the-art gondola.

The broad and gentle runs at the top of the mountain cater well for beginners, while for confident skiers, we love the thigh-burning Horgaletten downhill. And if you’re into off-piste, Voss is renowned for its powder! This historic town has nurtured more Winter Olympic athletes than anywhere else in the world, so you can be assured that it’s a good place to improve your skills.

Skiset, the retail chain that has over 780 shops in 450 ski resorts across Europe, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and has a number of new initiatives as it heads into the 2024-25 winter season.

For the 30th anniversary celebrations, Valentin, better known as Mr Lemdi, creates colourful graffiti-style designs for commemorative Salomon skis. The Savoyard street-artist has since signed a collaborative agreement with the world’s leading ski rental network, transforming the latest SKIFIT boot inners into works of art, on display in partner stores. This union matches contemporary graffiti and the childhood world that symbolises the alliance between technology and fun on the slopes. Other projects, currently in the pipeline, are coming soon for winter 2024/2025.

SKISET has partnered with ADN Skis, a start-up enterprise that is currently developing a novel approach to the manufacture of eco responsible, fully recyclable skis. In the 2024/2025 winter season, approximately sixty pairs of these skis will be available for hire in six pilot SKISET shops located across all French mountain ranges including the resorts of Val Thorens, La Plagne and Courchevel. Customers will also be able to provide feedback on the skis and they will be tested for their durability. After the natural life cycle of the skis, they are returned to ADN to be fully recycled.

Two new CEO’s have been appointment to manage Skiset’s business – they have both been employees of Skiset for over 20 years and bring a wealth of experience to the business.

Julien Gauthier, joint CEO and Development Director, said: “The economic development of SKISET and its affiliated stores is linked to snow cover in resorts. Changes in the climate, altitude and exposure of resorts, and their ability to produce snow, will determine the future. The strong presence of our brand in high altitude regions in France and our expansion into Europe dilutes the risks associated with regional snow shortages. While we are confident about the future of winter sports equipment rental, our core business, we are nevertheless committed to exploring new avenues of growth for our affiliated stores, particularly in mid-mountain areas”.

Denis Marinho, joint CEO and Financial Director, said: “Looking forward, we believe that innovation will drive growth. The aim is to be ahead of the game in our core businesses. With digitalisation pervasive, the advent of artificial intelligence will precipitate a profound transformation in the near future. It is imperative that we adapt rapidly, as we have consistently done in the past, relying on the collective investment of all our employees and affiliated businesses to achieve goals that we may never have imagined just a few years ago”.

Another development for this winter season sees the introduction of new BOA© technology, available to rent, in a number of Skiset Ultimate Range stores. This innovative lacing system, used by a number of manufacturers (including Salomon and Atomic), is more effective than traditional clips and offers a number of advantages including Personal fit, micro-adjustable support with no unpleasant pressure points. Uniform foot wrap and improved heal support. Stainless steel cables for constant tension.

Norway is rapidly emerging as a top destination for British skiers this winter, according to Britain’s original specialist ski travel agency and tailor-made tour operator, Ski Solutions. As of 17 October 2024, Ski Solutions has seen December 2024 bookings to Norway surge by 64% year-on-year, reflecting a strong appetite for the Norwegian slopes among UK travellers.

Pax numbers for December 2024 are up by an impressive 109% compared to last year, with Ski Solutions noting that more families and groups are choosing Norway for their winter holidays, drawn by its blend of adventure and unique Nordic experiences.

Cirium data shows that the number of direct flights from the UK to Norway in December 2024 is set to reach 872, providing over 143,000 available seats—a 14% increase compared to December 2023, reflecting growing demand from British travellers.

Leading the way are two of Norway’s most renowned resorts: Geilo and Trysil. Geilo has experienced an extraordinary 126% increase in December pax numbers year-on-year, while Trysil has seen a solid 42% increase. These two resorts are proving particularly popular with British visitors this December, offering a mix of thrilling activities and stunning winter landscapes, as well as untouched slopes.

Norway’s momentum as a winter sports destination extends beyond the festive season. For the entire 2024/25 season, Ski Solutions reports that bookings are tracking 57% up year-on-year, with pax numbers rising by 83% compared to the previous winter season.

Interest in Norway’s northern regions is particularly strong. Cirium notes that flights to Tromsø, the gateway to the Arctic Circle and a prime location for viewing the Northern Lights, are projected to increase by 296% in December 2024 compared to last year, as more Brits seek out new Nordic destinations with guaranteed snow.

To accommodate the growing interest, nine new direct flight routes from the UK to Norway are being introduced this winter, providing even more options for British skiers:
30 October – Norwegian: Manchester to Tromsø
2 November – Norwegian: London Gatwick to Harstad/Narvik
2 November – Scandinavian Airlines: London Heathrow to Tromsø
11 November – easyJet: London Gatwick to Tromsø
15 November – easyJet: Manchester to Oslo
19 November – easyJet: Manchester to Tromsø
1 December – British Airways: London Heathrow to Tromsø
5 December – easyJet: Bristol to Tromsø
15 December – TUI Airways: Manchester to Oslo

Ian McIlrath, Managing Director of Ski Solutions, has commented: “Norway’s rise as a must visit winter destination for British travellers is fantastic to see. The combination of well preserved natural beauty and world-class skiing has created an unparalleled offering for those looking to book a ski holiday outside of the usual go to destinations . With an increase in direct flights and a growing appetite for adventure, we’re seeing an increase in travellers embracing Norway as a top choice for the upcoming ski season. The significant year-on-year increase in bookings to resorts like Geilo and Trysil highlights just how much UK skiers are drawn to Norway’s charm and versatility”.

On 14th February, Courmayeur comes alive with festivities, with shop windows and boutiques along Via Roma, the pedestrian shopping street, adorned in imaginative decorations, to celebrate its patron saint, St Valentine. The streets resonate with music, animations, gourmet delights, and traditional celebrations. It’s the perfect day to enjoy a romantic stroll, discovering the town’s most picturesque corners or joining the lively folk group Les Badochys, who parade through the centre with traditional dances and music, accompanied by the charming Beuffon, the colourful carnival figure heralded by the distinctive sound of bells.

Courmayeur Design Week

Returning for its fifth year, for one long weekend in February 2025, Courmayeur Design Week transforms the town into a vibrant hub where designers, companies, and design experts gather at the foot and summit of Mont Blanc.

Created by architect Paola Silva Coronel and organised in collaboration with Courmayeur Mont Blanc, the event features a range of conferences and an exhibition that spans the streets of the town and the Courmayeur Sport Centre.

Hotel Harmonie in trendy Servitenviertel, surrounded by cafes and some of Vienna’s most popular restaurants, owes its name to the former Harmonie Theatre, just a stone’s throw away. Expect colourful rooms and pieces of art around the building. Hotel Harmonie holds certificates for sustainability, allergy-friendliness, and organic products, and was one of the first hotels to offer a fully vegan breakfast.

Charming Hollmann Beletage is a 4-star boutique hotel around the corner from St Stephen’s Cathedral. Founder Robert Hollman says he can’t stand hotels and therefore has created an alternative home away from home for guests treasuring both individuality and the special things in life. In other words, people exactly like himself. Surprises await at every corner at this unique and colourful place, like a hidden garden, a stylish private cinema, or a room solely dedicated to board games (they are even on the walls!). The 28 rooms boast unique design features such as (half) open bathrooms or a fireplace.

Opened in 1898, Hotel Ambassador is as elegant as both its name and its surroundings suggest – it is located right in the heart of Vienna’s historic centre, close to St Stephen’s Cathedral and the State Opera. The hotel combines traditional ambience with modern spirit, and 19th century elements with cutting-edge amenities. What’s more, it ranks among Vienna’s most tradition-filled buildings. Many well-known figures in music, art, and culture have popped in here over the years. Travelling for a special occasion? The spacious top floor apartments come with private terraces and picture-perfect city views.

Opened in 1892, Hotel Bristol is so iconic it almost counts as a landmark itself. The five-star-hotel sits next to the Viennese State Opera (and most major sights, too), making it the perfect base for fans of classical music. The rooms boast opulent décor and amazing views of the Opera and the Ringstraße’s grand buildings, plus there’s the Bristol Lounge which has been dubbed “the most elegant dining room in town”. Kings, presidents, artists, and celebrities have all stayed at this hotel. Guests can enjoy all-day dining and exquisite cocktails and cognacs at the in-house restaurant, bars, and salons.

Hotel Altstadt, a carefully restored 19th-century patrician house is a piece of art in itself: All 62 rooms and suites have been individually designed by the likes of Lena Hoschek, Matteo Thun, and Lilli Hollein, and over 350 pieces of art are displayed throughout the hotel. Altstadt’s concept is no coincidence: The hotel sits in the heart of Vienna’s artist district Spittelberg. It is Vienna’s first hotel certified with the Austrian Eco-label for environmental and social sustainability, running on 100% renewable energy sources and using organic ingredients in the restaurant (plus there are many vegan options).

Once home to Vienna’s nobility Almanac Palais Vienna presents itself as a boutique 5-star luxury hotel blending architectural heritage with contemporary design. Salzburg

Stylish Arthotel Blaue Gans is the place to be when on a city break in Salzburg. Located right in the heart of town across from Festspielhaus (Festive Hall), close to Mozart’s birthplace and the Christmas markets, it houses Salzburg’s oldest inn (dating back to 1350), where guests can enjoy Austrian cuisine with a Mediterranean touch amidst vaulted ceilings and dark wooden beams. Art lovers will be delighted by the more than 120 original works in the building. And then there’s Campari: Celebrating the centuries-old trade routes between Salzburg and Venice, it is served all day long at the hotel bars.

Innsbruck

Innsbruck has no shortage of accommodation options but trendy NALA Individuell Hotel stands out from the crowd. An enchanting hotel in den 1950s, it has been turned into a modern city escape with colourful rooms and apartments all individually designed in line with their names (from cinema to zen) and mountain views. Both the city centre and the nearest lifts – for guests wanting to combine skiing and sightseeing – are within walking distance. NALA is dedicated to sustainability, running on 90% green energy, and using eco-friendly cosmetics, mattresses, and pillows, as well as organic ingredients for the breakfast buffet.

Happy browsing and hopefully see you in Austria soon!
