Sam returns to TYRONE 👊🇮🇩🙌🙌
Second half goals from Cathal McShane and Darren McCurry proved crucial as Tyrone ended a 13 year wait to claim the All Ireland Senior football championship title on a 2-14 to 0-15 score line.
After going two down in the opening minutes, Tyrone moved ahead through Morgan from a 47m free, Hampsey superbly from play, after a pass from his full back line colleague McNamee, and then a converted Darren McCurry free.
A brilliant goal line block from Niall Sludden denied Mayo an opening goal on 15 minutes before Donoghue levelled for Mayo, at 0-3 apiece before McCurry delivered a brilliant score to send Tyrone ahead again just before the water break.
Donohue levelled again but an excellent point from the outstanding McGeary sent Tyrone 0-5 to 0-4 ahead on 20 minutes.
It was a frenetic tussle in the opening half but Niall Sludden cut in for a brilliant Tyrone point on 27 minutes to move the Ulster champions ahead and Mattie Donnelly added a top class follow up as Tyrone edged two ahead, 0-7 to 0-5.
With 30 minutes on the clock Conor McKenna then sent McCurry in for the golden goal chance but Hennelly saved as Morgan then stepped up to convert the resulting 45. Tyrone now three ahead, 0-8 to 0-5.
Donoghue and McCurry then traded frees, as Tyrone maintained the three point advantage, 0-9 to 0-6, and centre back hit a big point on 36 minutes which was also quickly cancelled out by Niall Sludden at the opposite end. A Donohue free concluded the first half scoring and Tyrone maintained a 0-10 to 0-8 advantage going in at the break.
All to play for in the second half 👊
There was early end to end drama at the start of the second half and none more so than Donoghue driving his penalty kick off the post and wide. And as the penalty was missed, Cathal McShane entered the fray to replace Donnelly and what an impact - 1 minute later the Owen Roes man flicks a Conor Meyler pass to the net. A 1-10 to 0-9 lead now with 45 minutes gone.
Mayo continued to chip away at the lead as the game entered the third quarter but when Kilpatrick rose for an amazing catch and set up his club colleague, McCurry made no mistake as he palmed to the net snd pushed Tyrone five ahead, 2-10 to 0-11.
Keegan and Donoghue added Mayo points and there was again three between but a big run by Harte brought a free which Peter Harte converted - 2-11 to 0-13.
An excellent fi**ed point from Darragh Canavan cancelled out one from Conroy as the final entered the last three minutes of normal time, Tyrone thus leading 2-12 to 0-14 on 67 minutes.
Darragh Canavan then saw his goal attempt saved but McCurry was on hand to send the rebound over the bar. Niall Morgan converted his 3rd of the day and Tyrone moved six ahead 2-14 to 0-14.
Ultimately it was a final Tyrone looked exceptionally composed in and never really looked in trouble. There were so many brilliant performances throughout the team, from Morgan and the superb McNamee at the back to Harte, Kennedy, Kilpatrick, Meyler and McCurry outfield. The official man of the match will be announced at tonight’s Banquet in the Armagh City Hotel and there are a lot of contenders. No doubt about it!
Sam number 4 for TYRONE! ❤️🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🙌
