Reflecting back on 2023 is bittersweet. As a family we had so many beautiful moments watching our little guys learn and grow. Going to Disneyland for the first time, our 3 year old starting preschool and turning into a little boy and all the crazy antics of our 2 year old who simultaneously makes me want to rip my hair out and laugh so hard I cry.

From a business perspective, it was rough. 2023 was already a bit slow as covid created a temporary disruption in dating which is now resulting in a lull weddings. Then the fires came and ripped so many life’s apart. We are so fortunate that our home was not affected, but my little business was hit hard. Almost all my weddings for the second half of 2023 were cancelled and it was questionable if it would survive. While my business is still just hanging on by a thread, I’m looking forward to all the beautiful weddings I have booked for 2024. I’m hoping things start to pick up and I’m anxious to see where 2024 will take us.

Thank you to all of my amazing couples for your love, support, and patience these last 5 months as Maui has had to navigate this tragedy. I love and appreciate you all more than words can say.

I’m so fortunate for my amazing little family and friends despite the hardships 2023 brought.

Here’s to hoping 2024 will bring some better days!

Hey Instagram! It’s been a bit. While we were lucky we didn’t loose our home in the fire, the emotional trauma and devastation to my small business has been a heavy load to bear while keeping up with two toddlers.

Thank you for all the love, support, patience, and understanding with my slow response time while I’ve tried to pick up the pieces.

These photos are from a Mother’s Day shoot with earlier this year, and I absolutely adore these moments captured with my sweet (crazy) boys. When you support my small business, you aren’t just supporting a hobby, you are supporting my family. I’m lucky my husband has been able to keep us afloat since the fire cancelled all but a few of my weddings, but it’s been a scary month. I’m hoping to see more weddings come back to Maui soon.

It’s so crazy to think that we have just 15 weeks left as a family of three. Trying to enjoy every minute with Knox until baby brother arrives! I always wanted to be a boy mom, but it’s so much better than I ever could have imagined. And now I cry at every mother-son dance I film knowing that will be me some day 🥺

A huge thank you to for these beautiful pictures! You captured us perfectly, I’m so grateful to have this special time in our lives to be able to look back on. If you’re on the fence about getting maternity photos, just do it! I know you might not feel your best right now but years from now your children will love being able to look back them! 9 months seems forever in the moment but is actually over before you know it and it’s crazy to think that this growing little person was ever in your belly. You’ll never regret those pictures, I promise🤍

This is the last Maui wedding I filmed before Covid hit. I’m so excited for my first Maui wedding in over a year coming up next month!!

A note to 2022 couples- 2021 spring and summer couples are still moving their weddings to 2022 (I just had 2 more weddings rescheduled). I would definitely get your vendors booked ASAP because 2022 is filling up fast between the backlog of 2020/2021 wedding and new 2022 bookings.

Aloha! I’m Shanyn, the face behind the lens and film creator at Portola Studios. I believe that all love is created equally, and I strive to catch every emotion and nuance of your wedding day in a way that allows you to remember it exactly as it was the first time. I love film's ability to capture more than just an image, but also a feeling. There is no other movie you will ever watch quite like your wedding film. Long after the toasts have finished, the sparklers have burned out, and you’ve hand written the millionth thank you note, your wedding film will preserve all of those beautiful moments and memories. A highlight reel of the most wonderful day of your life. A beautiful film tribute starring you and your partner.

My filming style is to be a fly on the wall. I am the quiet counterpart to your photographer who will generally run the show as far as organization and direction goes. My artistic approach lies in finding the unique, authentic moments, in between snapshots, where you’re swept up in excitement and emotion. I’ll catch the silly antics your groomsmen are up to while you’re getting portraits done, the adoring look your new husband gives you while you aren’t paying attention, and the ridiculous dance moves your dad breaks out on the dance floor. This day is all about you, your partner, and your love story. At Portola Studios, we will make every effort to ensure your video is everything you had hoped it would be, and more.
