Jughead's Basement Podcast & Blog Punk Rock and Independent Music Podcast with full interviews of bands and their fans conducted by Screeching Weasels' John Jughead.

Punk Rock and Independent Music Podcast with full interviews of bands and their fans. When my basement flooded, I lost a goodly amount of my records and fanzines. At that moment I decided to collect the memories of these bands importance in my life. And so was born the podcast Jughead's Basement, where me and my writer friends dedicate an episode every month to a band and a record that has influenced us. Interviews and Personal pieces. A cross between a Rockumentary and This American Life.

I have been wanting to interview Glen Herman for quite awhile. And we finally got it done. Glen was a very crucial component to Ben and I navigating through the early punk scene in Chicago. Glen released his bands album the same time, on the same label, and Screeching Weasels Self Titled. Here is his record with Impulse Manslaughter. Listen to him talk next week on Jughead's Basement.

Impulse Manslaughter - he who laughs last... laughs alone (lp 1987)1. Batman and the oracle of pe**le savage2. Vomitheads3. We're all bored here4. Suffer in ...

Mass Giorgini is a Producer, Mixing & Mastering Engineer, Musician from bands such as Squirtgun, Screeching Weasel, and Common Rider. Jughead and Mass have been friends since the late 80s. That's a long time. And their catchups are always sprawling, referential, and we believe fun and interesting. Give it a listen.

Here is the second in my new Jughead's Basement series called Catching Up With Friends. Larry has been on my show quite a few times, but he is still a popular suggestion when I ask the podcast audience. So here is Larry and I talking about a lot of random s**t, not music based but dancing around it occasionally.

Steve Albini's Life Celebration Reissue of The Big Black Episode from October 2014.
Interviews with Steve Albini, Santiago Durango, Jeff Pezzati, Camilo Gonzalez, Jim DeRogatis, and Russ Forster.

July 22nd is the date of Steve Albini's Birthday. I never do rebroadcasts of past episodes but I was informed of the idea for a life celebration of Steve on his birthday, so I was encouraged to participate. The episode is worth it. One of my best. Much of the credit goest to my partner in this Russ Forster and of course to Steve and Santiago.

I am experimenting with a more low key interview style for friends and also people I have interviewed before. I am starting it off with Eddie. He has never been on Jughead's Basement before, so this is kind of a hybrid episode. Next weeks with Larry Livermore will be a bit more true to the new form of: Catching Up With Friends.

Here is Eddie!

I love Ryan Singer’s art work. He did a Mopes design for me and also my 50th Birthday poster. He will be at the exhibit in Chicago for the opening along with some of his art. You should definitely go to see him at the opening or at least check out the artwork on your own time. It would mean a lot to me, since I can’t be in Chicago to help support the event in person.
(His art is in the middle in the poster below. He often combines Native American inlfuences with Sci Fi he grew up with. His work is extremely well done, entertaining, and meaningful.)

Ryan was on my podcast many years past:
