'aurōra' can be used as a control device for modular synthesisers or any instrument with a CV input. Working with the varying voltage produced from light hitting its solar panel — either randomly or by the user’s own physical manipulation — ‘aurōra’ serves as an unpredictable source of modulation by involving spatial activity.

Building on 99C’s conceptual framing of our catalogue, ‘aurōra’ is an exploratory release that resonates with our commitment to the environment, and echoes 2021’s solar-powered recording of chant #8: - ‘The Helicon Sessions'.

In 2018, the collective set up a temporary outdoor recording studio, 1130 meters above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Helicon in Greece, with the ambition of recording their work in a natural environment. A ‘mobile and modular’ construction, fully powered by solar panels, the design of the studio showcases the possibilities of a progressive, environmentally sustainable future through renewable energy.

On this month’s Tomorrow Is Forever, we have invited the exceptional Lebanese artist Jana Saleh as part of the Sonic Liberation Front project in solidarity with Radio Alhara راديو الحارة and the people of Palestine.

An ongoing research on Taarab sounds and performances, this time with an excerpt from Badrya el Sayed and Oum Kalthoum. Expect experimental, electronic, folk and many more sounds across the 1 hour of music with Jana Saleh.
