Heidi Hightower of Missouri and Rainer Fuller Moore of Illinois are representing Southern Illinois University in the all-women Air Race Classic which began today. More than 50 teams flying a wide variety of aircraft will travel 2,610 miles from Carbondale, Illinois to Loveland, Colorado in the 47th annual race. Teams will stop in Moberly, Missouri late Wednesday or early Thursday depending on weather. Both Heidi and Rainer are certified flight instructors at SIU. Heidi is the daughter of Rod Hightower who was among a group of Stearman formation pilots featured in the Fall 2021 issue of Show-Me Missouri.

This TBM Avenger provided rides to veterans during the Lake of the Ozarks Airshow. The Avenger is the type of plane flown by LT JG George H.W. Bush in WWII. The refurbishment of this particular vintage aircraft, based at Smartt Field in St. Louis County, was featured in the Spring 2010 issue of Show-Me Missouri.
