Nobody could have predicted before the pandemic began in 2020 that lighting in the home office and workspace would be thrust into the spotlight and require more attention to detail, function, efficiency and design than ever.

After all, few homeowners spent as much time in their home office before COVID emerged as they did once it took a foothold in our lives. Working remotely meant rethinking how to transform the everyday home office into a comfortable, well-lit office away from the office.

Happy holidays! Kick off December with a festive evening at the Bluffton Night Bazaar on December 1
This artisan night market featuring local makers is held under twinkling lights on Thursday evenings — with seasonal cocktails, too.

Shop local for the holidays by browsing stalls of local artisans in the courtyard of Burnt Church Distillery, 120 Bluffton Road, from 5-8 p.m.

All of Lowcountry Made’s markets feature only local artisans and makers.

These local artisans will have tons of festive goodies to choose from — including sweet treats like hot cocoa bombs and decorate holiday cookies; Christmas decorations, ornaments and other seasonal decor; holiday-themed clothing and accessories, and more.

You’ll also find plenty of handcrafted, custom items that will make the best holiday gifts!

This special holiday Bluffton Night Bazaar will also include festive, live music and seasonal food and drinks.

The market is free to attend; all ages are welcome.

When Tim Gray, a filmmaker with 31 documentaries to his credit, needs a quiet environment where he can concentrate on writing his next documentary, he heads to Hilton Head Island.

A resident of Rhode Island, Gray’s condominium near the Coligny area serves as his refuge the half dozen or so times a year that he and his wife visit the Lowcountry.

For Pretty Papers & Gifts on Hilton Head Island, the keys to lasting success are top-notch customer service and a wide variety of quality merchandise.

Original owner Susan Woods opened the shop in 1983 in Sea Pines Center as a high-end party store that sold Caspari napkins, Crane stationery, gift wrap, ribbons and balloons.

“We were the first stationery store on the island,” owner Gene Arrington said.

There’s something a little bit…magical about The French Bakery. Maybe it’s something in the deliriously light and fluffy crepes, the savory gourmet quiche or the blissfully sweet pastries.
Then again, maybe it’s something in the way Marek Belka decided long ago that time should move differently when you’re in his restaurant.
“This isn’t a place for you to rush your way through a meal,” he said. “We wanted this to be a place where you put your phone away, you enjoy the music and the views, and you let yourself really experience the food.”
So whether you’re coming in for a rich cappuccino, a glass of wine or an order of fresh-made pastries, don’t rush your next trip to French Bakery. Take the time and savor each moment.

Tomasz Belka has been in the kitchen at The French Bakery since shortly after his father Marek took over 15 yeas ago. But his culinary journey began years before he made his way to Hilton Head Island.
“I moved to the states when I was 18 to attend USC for hospitality management, and ever since I’ve been cooking and learning from different chefs I’ve worked with,” he said. When his father took over The French Bakery, it proved the perfect opportunity for Tomasz to broaden his culinary horizons into baking, and work side-by-side with his dad.
