‘Are we living in a pre-war rather than a post-war world? This is a legitimate question, given that there are more than 120 armed conflicts worldwide.’

A fascinating review from The Conversation Australia + NZ of Dennis Glover's latest book REPEAT: A WARNING FROM HISTORY.

Dennis Glover asks where the world might be heading and warns that maybe the endgame has already begun.

We had a wonderful time at Trobe University's latest Launches @ The Library event. Professor Rebecca Strating, author of GIRT BY SEA, and Dr Michael O'Keefe had an excellent discussion, moderated by Professor Nick Bisley.

The conversation ranged across Australian foreign policy, strategic defence, maritime relations, and submarines. It was an incredible opportunity to hear such brilliant minds discussing issues that directly affect Australians. Thank you to Clare Wright for hosting such a great event.

The discussion will soon be available on the Literary La Trobe Podcast.

Andrew Ford: Víkingur Ólafsson, Miriam Margolyes, and Taryn Fiebig. In 2020, Taryn was to have sung the title role in my opera Rembrandt’s Wife, for Opera Australia, its production postponed in the pandemic. Now, even if the production were to go ahead, it would be without Taryn, who died in 2021.

‘We’ve got other words that all of us use in English that come from Dharug for instance, which is the language of the Sydney regions: dingo, boomerang, waratah, wombat. All of us, even non-indigenous people, we’re speaking indigenous languages all the time, everyday.’ —Felicity Meakins, co-author of BINA.

‘I can’t escape the conclusion that non-Indigenous Australians failed Indigenous people.’

In the Friday Essay for The Conversation Australia + NZ Shireen Morris tells how an unholy alliance of the separatist left and the reactionary right rejected the Voice's 'sensible middle way'.

Shireen Morris's new book BROKEN HEART: A TRUE HISTORY OF THE VOICE REFERENDUM is available online or at your local bookstore.

Shireen Morris worked for 12 years, with Aboriginal leader Noel Pearson, to achieve Indigenous constitutional recognition, building on decades of Indigenous advocacy. What happened?

‘[Ariane] Beeston's son was just one month old when she had her first hallucination. She remembers looking down at him while pushing him in the pram "and his little face had just turned into a dragon".’

BECAUSE I'M NOT MYSELF, YOU SEE tells the fascinating story of author Ariane Beeston's postnatal journey, featured by ABC Radio National.

Ariane Beeston worked as a child protection officer for years, but she didn't realise how much the trauma of her work had impacted her until she had a child of her own.

For those of us still reeling from the outcome of the Voice Referendum, Shireen Morris's book BROKEN HEART analyses the mistakes of the government and 'Yes' advocates, the fickleness and ultimate intransigence of the right, and the betrayals and lies that led to the referendum's defeat.

'Powerful and moving . . . BROKEN HEART is an erudite and forensic analysis of a nation-defining political campaign, ultimately destroyed by betrayal and self-interest. It challenges us to learn, reflect and remain energised if we are to become a better, fairer country.' —Larissa Behrendt, author of After Story

‘This new biography of Madame Brussels should intrigue readers who already have an interest in nineteenth-century Victoria, and catch the interest of those new to the subject. Caroline Hodgson was a fascinating woman and her story enriches and complicates Melbourne’s history.’ —Marian Quartly, Inside Story

From **hBlaine, one of Australia's most brilliant writers, comes AUSTRALIAN GOSPEL, a gripping true story about the tangled fates of two couples and the foster children trapped between them.

'This is the new benchmark for the quintessential Australian epic. I lost count of how many times I laughed and cried. If I was a believer, I'd say that L**h Blaine's writing is godlike. Then again, it's something better than that; enchantingly human.' —Grace Tame

BROKEN HEART: A TRUE HISTORY OF THE VOICE REFERENDUM is out today.

Told from the unique insider perspective of Shireen Morris, a constitutional lawyer who worked closely with Noel Pearson on the Voice for over a decade, this book analyses the mistakes of the government and 'Yes' advocates, the fickleness and ultimate intransigence of the right, and the betrayals and lies that led to the referendum's defeat.

BROKEN HEART tells a story of hope and tragedy. But its lessons will assist future reformers and leaders who want to make Australia a better place.
