Almost a year ago, I started researching current cloud production technologies. After time and testing, it was clear that Advanced Systems Group and their cloud team was in a leadership position. At the same time, Dave and I had been chatting, and he was impressed with ArkRunr and its capabilities.
Fast forward several months, and we announced SuperSphere's new strategic relationship with ASG, around ArkRunr.
Now, the next logical step of an overall evolution in production - the Virtual Truck™ and VPCR™. The Virtual Truck has similar capabilities to a 53' loaded with gear, and it is the rare combination in many cases of better, faster, and cheaper. (and notice on the web page the upcoming ArkRunr trailer!) Physical trucks will be around for a while. But, the times when they are necessary will become less frequent.
But even with a Virtual Truck, cameras and gear are still required at location! Enter Mike Nichols and the team at Surella, who have configured bicoastal vehicles explicitly designed to plug-and-play with Virtual Trucks.
Cloud production / software-defined worfklows are a massive evolution in live production and sets. And this technology will also open up this world to a *huge* amount of creators producing advanced shows, who can't get through the inherent gatekeeping that exists when hiring an OB vehicle.
Throughout my career, I've been drawn like a magnet to the "next thing." This feels like a big one, and I'm excited to be a part of it with Dave, Claudia, and the team at ASG.
