Michelle here. and I share many “non-synchronous” connections: , , . I respect his mind and artistry, tho we have often been divergent in educated tastes, which only makes me like & respect him more, & hire him (and challenge him) whenever I was able.

So when , a human I respect, admire, and care for, is invited by , an entity I know, respect, admire, and care for, chooses a , I am honored.

And, he chooses Charles, in 2024. 💚🥹💚🙏🏾

Our books exist because of you and your collaboration!!! Tariqa’s book is our 32nd title to move forward. It is a risk & a challenge for the author and for us every time we launch a book in pre-sales—we never know if you all have the interest and capacity to publish with us. A small selection of images from an epic weekend. Thinking of all the co-publishers of .peterson.photographer’s Nirvana, of (great to see you & your family Friday!!!), Thomas Palmer, Krist Novoselic and all it took to print the book at one year ago.

And now we are here.

Thank you to esp. .ito , , ben wildenhaus, Steve Rue, Zoe Donnell, Visitor Services, store, education, Rachel & Peter in mktg, the whole Dev and Admin staff for all the efforts to make this exhibition what we wanted it to be: local, authentic, and intergenerational, honoring music & the artform of photography.

Happy Friday! Michelle here.

In three short weeks .peterson.photographer ‘s Nirvana: On Photography and Performance opens at (what we hope is the first of several venues!).

This is a portion of my reference shelf used for researching & developing this exhibition. With over FIFTY photographs by. Charles (incl some vintage RCs!) the show also includes work by some other stellar artists—incl Paul Berger, , , and others—to be in company with Charles’ photographs & vision, and place the impact of the music of this band and these visuals in some new context.

Thanks to EVERYONE who took part in co-publishing the book, and celebrating its release. Without it existing, we would not be preparing to open this exhibit. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾

The exhibit will be up through May 2025, so plan your visit!!

Studio visit with ‘s Tariqa Waters yesterday….just what we needed as antidote to the coldest day in August, FFS!

Seeing her work in installation is one powerful experience. And yet seeing pieces isolated and on their own, in a window, in a stairwell, creates another layer of appreciation not only for the object itself and the care given to its realization, but for the immense associations of histories, cultures, and experiences from a seemingly simple accessory.

We are so pleased to share that we’ve hit the first milestone of 100 pre-sales toward our goal of 500 copies sold to move this book forward. The first wave of early adopters have done their part 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 🔥❤️🔥! Will you do yours? Link in bio.

Re-visiting @charles.peterson.photographer’s Nirvana with Mum, thoroughly enjoyed @rainierbeermovie (and scheming to see it again & again) inspired by @berettemacaulay ‘s panel at the Henry, and so moved by @paperflowersmovie at the @tasveerorg film festival. *Most important amid all this inspiration?* Two weeks until the deadline for Tariqa Waters @martyrsauce’s first book! 96 sales to go to greenlight this! @artenoirnow and so many others have gotten us 80% to goal. 🙏🏾 YOUR TURN!

On October 4, 2023 we were in Barcelona printing @charles.peterson.photographer’s Nirvana, along with Sugarcane & Lightning by @adrianlburrell and Mourning by @lrkur. Exactly one year later we opened Charles Peterson’s Nirvana at @tacomaartmuseum. That installation also includes an interactive display (aka a bookshelf!) of every book we’ve published with thousands of you. That exhibition represents a whole lotta dreams that became reality. 3.5 weeks to go to green light @martyrsauce’s first monograph. Books hold our histories, and make richer our futures. We’ve been meeting weekly with Tariqa and are SO excited about this ten-year survey of her life & work, with fierce & wise insights on how she & her family have navigated their creative life. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 to those who have added their name to this publication—this fall’s likely to get wild, so please get on board now to bring this book into existence!
