De Subjectivisten reviews G.W. Sok & Ignacio Córdoba 's IS THIS A HOUSE and writes beautiful things like "G.W. Sok is now back with the album Is This A House, together with the Danish electronic musician and improviser Ignacio Córdoba. (...) The foundation for their collaboration was laid in 2018 with Córdoba G.W. Sok to a performance at WORM Rotterdam. The joint venture between Amsterdam and Copenhagen only really took shape when Córdoba started building the rest of the house at home with many local artists, who coloured it all with guitars, drums, horns, piano and other instruments. The album consists of 8 experimental tracks, which provide more than 45 minutes of mesmerizing, intriguing music. The spoken word of G.W. Sok, which was recorded live together with the music of Córdoba, has been beautifully embedded with that treatment afterwards. It highlights his more poetic skills, which he has shown before, but which is more explicit here."

G.W. Sok & Ignacio Córdoba IS THIS A HOUSE

The result of a collaboration between vocalist G.W. Sok (ex-vocalist for The Ex and electronic composer & improviser Ignacio Córdoba.

In early 2018 Ignacio invited Sok to join him during his residency at WORM Rotterdam. During that week the duo investigated the possibilities of Worm’s various machines and instruments in combination with vocal elements. The result of the sessions were a series of improvisations grown out of Córdoba’s electronic experiments and Sok’s lyrics of dreams, stories, poems and edits from found footage, sometimes cut-and-paste on the spot and sometimes reworked and reshaped later on.

Back home Córdoba began inviting a wide arrange of musicians from all over the world to improvise with guitars, drums, horns, piano and more on top of the Worm skeletons. Afterwards he applied the same collage/cup-up philosophy to all the sound material to create compositions that expand like incantations lead by Sok’s voice. Meanwhile a global virus got in the way, things were delayed even more, and it was no sooner than February 2024 that Tractor Notown and MAGIA could shake hands and release it.

Today is the last day! Ignacio Cordoba will close tonight at 20:00h at Metronomen his series of concerts for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival after performing at 5e, RMC - Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium and Brønshøj Vandtårn. You can stream tonight's gig from Metronomen's page.

A couple of years ago, Ignacio Córdoba found in the thrash a noise machine capable of the most inhuman rhythms and he baptised it as The Rhythm Totem in a very special concert at Kbh opening for Søren Høi. Today at 15:30, it will re-emerge for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival at RMC - Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium.

Tonight it begins! Ignacio Córdoba will reunite with Kresten Osgood to celebrate 10 years of 5e thanks to ILK Music. 5e was the first place Ignacio visited the first time he set foot in Denmark about 6 years ago and the first place he played in Denmark a bit later thanks to Kresten, so this is a pretty special evening. Check also the rest of his gigs the next 3 days at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
