Day 5 of the Challenge: Favourite Ghanaian non-fiction book
I am a fiction lover but this book right here, hit differently.
Islamic Revivalism in Contemporary Ghana by Yunus Dumbe is a comprehensive academic research material on how Islam came to Ghana, how it was received and practised before independence and the emergence of the various Islamic movements (sects) as well as the contributions of their leaders. The book also captures the influence of Ghana’s foreign policy (in Kwame Nkrumah’s time) on Islamic revivalism in Ghana.

Day 4 of the Challenge: Favourite fiction book
Growing up, Peggy Oppong’s books did it for me in terms of fiction. Out of the set of books she authored, I loved Julia’s Dance the most, so much so that I read it multiple times. Those days, I wished it was transformed into a movie.
Now, among the number of fiction books I’ve read so far, I’ll choose Harmattan Rain by , His Only Wife by and my most recent sweetheart, All Ghana A Stage, as a few favourites from the non-exhaustive list.

Day 3 of the Challenge

A Ghanaian meal + A Ghanaian book

Mashed yams dipped in palm oil and other condiments, garnished with boiled eggs, roasted groundnuts and something avocado is one of the numerous Ghanaian delicacies.

Popularly known in the Ga and Akan societies as ɛtɔ or otɔ, mashed yam (or mashed plantain) is often used to mark birthdays, celebrate milestones or pacify dieties in a traditional setting.

ɛtɔ was featured in Asare Konadu’s A woman in her prime.

Day 2 of the Challenge
A place in Ghana + A Ghanaian book

First off, I wanted to visit a historic site and to some scenes and sights and at least a picture of my bookish self but guess who kept postponing….!
I had to make do with these, anyways.

I chose the Aburi Botanical Gardens and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum
