I will be on WPKN from 1 - 4 P.M. on Thursday, Feb. 22. There are two concerts from the 70's that have been unearthed. In my second hour I'll be playing some selections from Steeleye Span at the Bottom Line from 1974. And in hour three some goodies from early Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks. Also, I'll be starting the show off with Bela Fleck's new take on Rhapsody in Blue (So Gershwin wrote a banjo part, huh?) I hope you can tune in! - Zeet

I'll be hanging out on PKN the afternoon of the 8th. I'm planning to focus (mostly) on two things... exploring some of the new music that was recently released (Sarah Jarosz, Jim Kweskin, John Leventhal, Danielle Nicole, Robert Finley, Caro Emerald); and highlighting some of the music and musicians that recently were nominated and won the awards at the UK Americana Awards.

“Zeeto on the Radio” (http://zeetoradio.com) started broadcasting in January of 2023. So, we’ve recently passed the one year on the air mark. It has been fun, exciting and surprising. It has been wonderful to get comments and questions via email, and quadruply exciting to be sent music from so many wonderful artists. I’ve tried to make it known to all that it is important to me to make the station one that promotes a wide variety of musicians (however well known or not) to be played.
Another surprise was where people have been listening from. We’ve had active listeners from 173 countries! Amazing! By the way, after the United States, we’ve received the most listeners from (in order) The Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Brazil, Italy, Ireland and Canada. I’m also proud to announce that on average we’ve tripled our daily listeners in just the last two months of 2023. I want to let you know how much I appreciate you all.
One change for year two and one thing that will remain the same (both based on listener comments and suggestions). With people listening from so many time zones, the idea of scheduling blocks doesn’t always jive with the time of day where people are tuning in. So, I decided to randomly play our ever growing library of “Roots/Americana/Blues” music from Monday through Friday. But, by far, the thing that people have appreciated the most is 48 hours of all women artists through our weekend. Of course, we’re keeping that.
I’m committed to keeping ZOTR commercial free (despite the fact that it makes it more expensive to run). I appreciate all that have donated, and I’m especially thankful to those that have signed up to contribute on a monthly basis. I will tell you that in the first year, donations have covered just under 40% of our operating expenses. Please consider donating if you are able.

Thanks!

Happy New Years everyone! I’ll be sharing my Top Ten albums of 2023 on my final show of the year. 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. on WPKN on Thursday, 12/28. Can you guess any of them?

Throughout my show on WPKN on Thursday, Dec. 14th from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., I’ll be featuring only music that was released in 2023. I’ll sample the albums from A to Z (well, truth be told A to Y). Lot’s of great new offerings this year!

I’ll be getting to share some time with you this Thursday on WPKN from 1 - 4 P.M. I suppose the thread (if there is one) is great songwriting. I’ll kick off the show with three brand new songs that are amazingly written. And, we’ll see where it goes from there. But, one thing I definitely want to make you aware of … In the 2:00 hour I’m honored to be hosting Leo Armbruster. Leo recently released a new CD set where he pays tribute to singer/songwriter Bob Holmes. His new album is called “Bay of Mexico”. I’m planning on playing new tunes from Lori McKenna, Jason Isbell, Julie and Buddy Miller (a song on their upcoming album they co-wrote with Bob Dylan), Phoebe Hunt, Jess Williamson and Darlingside.

It has been nice for me to see musicians that I play often on PKN having success on Broadway. Anais Mitchell won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Original Score for "Hadestown". Ingrid Michaelson is working on a musical version of "The Notebook". And it was great to hear that the show "Shucked" is up for nine Tony Awards this year including Best Musical and Best Original Score. That score was written by two favorites, Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. I'll be doing a deep dive into Brandy and Shane's music in my second hour (following a listen to some new releases in hour one). I hope you'll give in an "EAR". (See what I did there? The show SHUCKED - give it an EAR. I know - pretty CORNY!)

Zeeto on the Radio - The Week Ahead:
On "No Song Like a New Song" this week I'll be featuring Paul Simon's brand new album. You'll also be able to hear new offerings from Leftover Salmon, Raul Malo and Samatha Fish. I found a 1991 solo concert by Townes Van Zandt from the Cactus Cafe in Austin. I'll be playing it on "Surprise". Check out the schedule for those shows and all our special programs at zeetoradio.com and send me your thoughts and ideas at [email protected].
Also, this coming Thursday will be the fourth one of the month. So I'll be hanging out on WPKN. I'm putting together some special things. More on that later this week. THANKS! - Zeet

Hi - I'm on PKN on Thursday, May 11th from 1-4 P.M. Here's my plan:
Hour One - I've had to buy a new car. No more CDs. So, I've been listening to lots of tunes playing in random order on a flash drive. Here's a few that perked up my drives.
Hour Two - There's some great new music recently released. I'll feature two songs from seven new albums.
Hour Three - I've got a special hour - but I'm leaving it a mystery. I think many of you will be blown away by it (and you folks with memories of the early SF music scene will probably figure out the preview in the picture).

This Week: We've unearthed a concert from August of 1966 of Muddy Waters and his Blues Band. It took place at Club 47 in Cambridge, MA. Notable in the band are Otis Spain and Sam Langhorne. We'll air it during "SURPRISE". We've also added a lot of music to our library. Among the additions are two very impressive new albums - Tommy Emmanuel's Accomplice Two (featuring songs with Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Jorma, Little Feat, David Grisman and more) and Proof of Life, just released by Joy Oladokun. Check out our whole schedule and listen in at zeetoradio.com or the simple radio app.

I will be doing a show on WPKN on Thursday, April 27 from 1-4 PM. Here's what I'm planning:
Hour One - A listen to some new music that has recently been released.
Hour Two - Inspired by one of those new releases (Carter Sampson's Gold) a listen to musicians born in Oklahoma. Some may surprise you!
Hour Three - I was recently talking to a friend about harp music. That got me remembering an old favorite album that I hadn't thought about in a long time. I'll feature it, and other music by harpists.
I'd love it if you can tune in!

Zeeto on the Radio - The Week Ahead:
I'll be featuring Carter Sampson's new album along with other new music from Natalie Merchant, Carolina Story, Sierra Ferrell, and Molly Tuttle on "No Song Like a New Song" this week. While listening to the latest from Carter, I started wondering which other musicians came from Oklahoma. My findings appear this week on the show "Surprise". Check out the schedule for those shows and all our special programs at zeetoradio.com and send me your thoughts and ideas at [email protected]

I will be doing a show on WPKN on Thursday, April 13 from 1-4 PM. Here's my plan:
1:00 hour - Settle in with some old favorites.
2:00 hour - Some of my favorite new songs of 2023 so far.
3:00 hour - KGSR in Austin has released 25 albums of musicians playing in their studio as a benefit for the SIMS Foundation (that benefits musicians). I've been collecting those albums over the years, and I'd like to feature some of my favorite cuts.
I hope you can join me!

Zeeto on the Radio - The Week Ahead:
Happy April everyone. It's the start of month four for this little radio station. On "No Song Like a New Song" this week I'll be featuring songs from the new albums by Nickel Creek, The Band of Heathens, Dom Flemons, and from the Songwriter Tapes (by Nashville legends Luke Laird, Lori McKenna and Barry Dean). I'll also be able to tease you with two songs that will be appearing on Jason Isbell's new album Weathervanes (which will be released on June 9th).
And speaking of songwriting, "Surprise" this week could serve as a master class as "An Evening with Sammy Cahn" will be presented. Check out the schedule for all our special programs at zeetoradio.com and send me your thoughts and ideas at [email protected]

I'll be hanging out on WPKN this Thursday, March 23 from 1-4 PM. Many programmers at PKN have been putting together shows and events this month to honor Women's History Month. Playing nothing but incredible women artists is not exactly a big jump for what I usually do. But I will try my best to make the three hours something special. And, it will be all the more special if I know that you'll be listening in! - Zeet

Zeeto on the Radio - The Week Ahead:
Email - Email - Email!
I heard from a lot of you thanking Mike Horyczun and myself for putting together the music for St. Patrick's Day. It was our most listened to day so far. A number of people asked if we can do more days like that. We can and we will. We're still learning and growing (as next week we'll just hit our three month mark as a station).
Email also comes into play with this week's "Surprise" hour. Tim from Fort Wayne, Indiana wrote me wondering if I would consider adding music from Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys to our library. I decided to go one better, and feature their music for an hour of Texas Swing. Check out the schedule for "Surprise" and all out special programs at zeetoradio.com and send me your thoughts and ideas at [email protected]

Zeeto on the Radio - The Week Ahead:
Mike Horyczun will join me this Friday as we celebrate St. Patrick's Day all day this Friday with great music from Ireland. We're putting together the perfect mix for all of your celebrations. Also, fittingly, Northern Ireland's own, Van Morrison, has a new album. It's called "Moving On Skiffle" and it will be the featured album on "No Song Like a New Song" all this week. A big week on Zeeto on the Radio. Listen in from the web (zeetoradio.com) or the simple radio app. - Zeet

I'm excited to spend time again on WPKN this Thursday. Here's what I have planned:
1:00 Hour - There's some great new releases (as always) and I'll be playing the ones I've really been enjoying.
2:00 Hour - I was saddened to hear of the passing last Friday of David Lindley. If you've been listening to my show over the years, you know how much I enjoyed and admired him. I'd like to pay tribute to him this hour.
3:00 Hour - I'll be playing a new musical game I just invented that I'm calling "There's Something in Common". Sorry, but you'll just have to tune in to hear what it is!
I hope you'll be able to hang out with me! - Zeet

Zeeto on the Radio - The Week Ahead:
I was saddened to learn of David Lindley's passing last Friday. He's a musician I've enjoyed and admired for a long time. I put together an hour tribute to him which I'll air on "Surprise" this week. As always, I've added lots of music to our library. This includes new music from Willie Nelson, The Shootouts, Doolin', and the Wildwoods; and older things from Adia Victoria, and Ry Cooder, John Hiatt & Nick Lowe. Thanks for tuning in and thanks for your support! - Zeet
