I had the thrill of working on a CBS special that Quincy Jones produced in 1994. The occasion was the reopening of The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, the former home of The Grand Old Opry. I had just moved to town and was lucky enough to land a job in the post production department. The night of the taping was an incredible event and the moment when I actually got to meet Quincy. He was friendly and looked me right in the eye when we shook hands. I’ll never forget his powerful presence and smile. I was so incredibly proud to be on the crew that night and the memory of that production stands as one of the best shows I ever worked on. I’m forever grateful to the amazing Quincy Jones.

While we were waiting to work with Ken Ken McNabb Horsemanship at his Trail Rider University at the beautiful Powderhorn Diamond-McNabb Ranch Horses in Douglas, WY I got to take a camera and go out on the trail with the group once or twice (hey, a sacrifice, but I took it for the team , ) So as a treat for the riders, we put together a short video so they could enjoy seeing themselves on the ride. First two songs are originals The Killens and the last one is a song we covered years ago on our Rolling Home CD. It's about 12 minutes. Your morning coffee zen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SN1hTJKhN4

All day work. 100 degrees. Excited riders and clever horses. We don’t usually shoot horse shows but this was fun! Just like the Olympics! And yes that’s a classic 69 Chevy acting as a field platform for a little while.

We've done a lot of educational videos and tv shows over the past two decades, and the ones we did for The Masterson Method rank up there with some of our best. So it's incredibly gratifying to read this blog post and know that someone, somewhere in the world, watched them and now does this! How cool! Through shooting and editing this material, I learned so much and really respect the work done by Jim Masterson. It's a phenomenal tool. Hit the link in the post below if you'd like to read about Walter!

Twenty years ago, we started our company. We were then hired to go out to Colorado and create a documentary for the premiere natural horsemanship company at the time, Parelli Natural Horsemanship. We stayed on to produce their extremely popular television series.

While there, we met this amazing horse developer. He was old school, dressed in a rough cowboy hat and neckerchief, sort of buckaroo style (though he would never claim that exalted title for himself, and still doesn’t). His style was part Will Rogers, part Roy Rogers, but everything he did was focused on listening, really listening, to what the horse’s actions and demeanor were telling him. Dave Ellis had a profound impact in how I learned to understand horses, and he also had the talent of bringing every student, no matter their level, into his circle of knowledge.

For two decades we have begged, cajoled and pleaded to bring us in to capture his genius on video. Over the years, we would ask less frequently and with the adage of “allow your idea to become his idea”, we waited. Well, for whatever reason, finally, we got the call. He and his wife and partner Jody Grimm were ready.

We talked a lot about what he wanted, as we do with every client. He didn’t want a “how to” video library. Because all horses are unique and their situations individual he wanted more of a place of discovery, of concepts and techniques; a place where you could come “ride with Dave and Jody” any time you wished and learn at deeper levels.

So for the past 7 days we spent hours filming dozens of situations on the LS Ranch in possibly the most beautiful part of California in the golden rolling foothills of the sierras.

We shot everything in dual camera 4k beauty. We also added some other techniques, using gimbals and go pros to allow the viewer to experience things as if really there, and Dianne used her riding skill to take the viewer right out on the trail as well as riding/standing at speed in the back of Lil’ Red to do some tracking shots. Moving all over many of the 600 plus acres of lush golden grasslands and experiencing the natural obstacles, tracks, arenas and round pens, cattle pens, rivers, hills and valleys, we can assure you that at some point you will have to visit in person. The horses, left to roam wherever they’d like, are some of the happiest we have ever seen and even when they weren’t in the scene they would hang out.

Based on his mentor Pat Parelli’s teaching and on those of the Dorrance Brothers and Ray Hunt, where Parelli originated, but also on the schools of thought of Martin Black and others, Dave is also a natural horsemanship wellspring of his own making, a certified Cowboy Dressage instructor as well as one of only a few six star PNH instructors. His teaching goes way beyond Parelli while honoring his roots.

Jody is a certified 4 star PNH instructor and she and Dave have worked and taught and developed horses and people for many years.

We all worked very hard and now we have the task of editing it all together for the benefit of Dave and Jody’s students everywhere. Even if someone is not watching for learning, they will watch just for the beauty alone, but learning will be inescapable.

Working at LS Ranch was a joy, and though grueling for all involved as the temps were 103 almost every day, we hope everyone who watches will come away being smarter for their horses.

Watch this space.

Our latest project for a client is a short one. Dianne Garnett Killen did all the post production on this one and we share it with gratitude to Sora and to her amazing students.

Here's a bit of fun we had in 2015, when we produced, shot and edited an 8 episode series with Craig Cameron and his Extreme Cowboy Challenge! It was probably 110 degrees, and pretty much the two of us with a couple of friends helping out, but we always like to challenge ourselves! When you watch it, you'll wonder how we ever did it!

As a fun look back, in 2015 we produced, directed, filmed and edited a seven episode series that featured 4 teams of 2 competing in one of Craig's tough chal...
