February 18th, 2025
Sponsor: CarJoy

Winters icy grip continues for the next couple of days before we see it break a bit. Still a slight chance for some light snow to flurries on Thursday, but other than that we remain super dry. Temps do rise above freezing by Friday and we even see the 40s return by Sunday. Stay warm!

Our 40-50 MPH gusts that we have been experiencing are starting to wind down overnight. The first picture are wind gusts at noon tomorrow (around 20mph) and the second picture is 4 PM (around 15mph). Still a bit breezy, but nothing in comparison to what we have been dealing with. -Glen

Keeping an eye on Thursday and there are no major changes to the computer models at this time. Most data has some lighter snow/clouds/snow showers for the day. The NAM 12k which honestly has been terrible all season, has more of a snow to shovel/plow.

The NAM 3k is more realistic (in my opinion) and remains light as Don mentioned this morning. 100 mile shift north and it’s a big diffence. However, this would mean all models need to get in agreement and we are running out of time. For now clouds and a light event if that. We’ll see when data refreshes tonight if there is any more of a shift north that would result in some more measurable snow. That’s all for now, proceed with your life as normal! 🤗 -Glen

It looks a lot warmer than it actually is outside 😎🥶☀️. Can definitely feel the warmth of the sun through windows and the cars though. Some signs that the sun angle is continuing to change little by little and get higher up in the sky. When do you think we will have our first 70 degree day this spring? Any guesses? -Glen

February 17th, 2025
Sponsor Moves Long Island

Cold and dry over the next 5 with the slight chance for some light snow on Thursday. The models are still split with either a complete miss or a very light event. There will be a ton of dry air across the country as, yet another mass of polar air is currently spilling into the lower 48. Along with the cold air, we have the last area of low pressure, deepening as its heading into the Canadian Maritimes, causing our winds to continue to gust in excess of 40mph. Temps do begin to climb by the weekend however and looking a bit warmer next week with temps potentially topping out firmly in the mid 40s or so.

For the record, the Wind Advisory has ended, but the gusty winds still remain. Wind gusts now should push 40 mph and possibly over at times through tomorrow. Hopefully everyone did okay with power and tree issues today 😕. -Glen

I know there will be no “at the bus stop” forecast tomorrow, but there will be many of us out an about early for work. The winds will still be fairly strong in the morning and the wind chill will drop down between -1 and 2 degrees. Get those cars started, heat warmers ready and bundle up! We only warm up to about 27 degrees tomorrow as a high. Brrrr…. -Glen

Well I know a lot of you have been waiting for this potential forecast! 😎 After this week, we look for another shift in the pattern and for warmer temps. (No, not 60’s) but hopefully the lower to mid 40’s and maybe a 50 here or there! (We’ll take it).

I’m not saying this is the last long stretch of 🥶 cold weather we are having this week, but little by little we are gonna start to see signs of spring 🌸🌼 and these long cold stretches will fade. Snow chances always remain until middle of April, but Mother Nature is gonna start to make it harder. -Glen

I actually feel bad for our followers that were misguided by other pages for Thursday. I don’t fully blame the other pages for posting about the storm, as the models looked really great for a mega storm here. But time after time, these models are so unreliable so far away and with the way this winter has been going, the big storms have been staying south and being suppressed when these big cold Arctic outbreaks take place.

It’s been 3 years since a big storm has hit our area and I think there’s a lot of anxiousness to get one here and people are desperately wanting to believe the computer models. Don and I never really liked the look of the energy with this storm as the upper level energy never quite “dug” like they normally do for a big system.

There aren’t really winners or losers with forecasts like this, it’s just a matter of having responsibility to your followers to not hype something up and get people stressed about flights and surgeries and important things in their life that now they are contemplating changing. Don and I know darn well the powerful responsibility we hold in helping make decisions in their daily life and we will NEVER take that for granted the 80,000 of you that follow us.

Did we text our family and close friends about this potential? Sure… did we give the People’s Pub a heads up that “maybe,” yes! But…not publically. I hope everyone understands why we wait and wait to discuss things when you send messages and we don’t have answers. This whole situation is a perfect example of that.

That being said… Thank you for trusting us in being your local “go to” source for Long Island Weather! We work SO HARD to bring you the most accurate weather info around. Stay warm out there. -Glen

The energy for Thursdays system comes on shore tomorrow around 1 PM on the West Coast. At that point models will have much better sampling. As of tonight, models remain well off shore of Long Island for this storm.

Could there be snow and it be plowable? I don’t think that’s 100% out of the question yet, it is possible, but the Armageddon of blizzard options that a lot of you have seen elsewhere are running out of time. We will see what tomorrow brings and what the end result of this is. For now, hold onto your hats tonight. -Glen
