“PIECES OF ME”
Arts & Living
Sarya Jamal – Artist/Designer. By far the most important and brightest piece of me is my 3 year old daughter Layah, born in 2010. Now, 2014 I am very excited to share with you some of my other passions through “Pieces of Me” my line of arts & living. I have silently said so much through these pieces for I know not any better way to express myself. Biography
Born & ra
ised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, I, Sarya Jamal am a graduate of Pharmacy from UMST in Khartoum, Sudan and currently working as a Medical Officer at Bupa Arabia. Art & science are branches of knowledge that can be used together to produce ingenious solutions. History has shown many examples of artists who were scientists. Leonardo's most famous drawing, the Vitruvian Man, is a study of the proportions of the human body, linking art and science. He was also renowned in the fields of of civil engineering, chemistry, geometry, hydrodynamics, optics, physics and zoology.
“Pieces of me”, my arts & living line represent my journey in art & science, in the way that my endeavors in both fields saw me seated on different chairs in various places to ready, design & paint allowing me to contemplate on the lessons life has taught me. Initially I originally started painting acrylic on canvas before I switched to oil paints and finally workin’ the woods. “Shams Gallery” in Khartoum, where I spent a lot of time, was owned by a very talented artist whom is less fortunate than most. He would paint on clay, tires, glass, wood or newspapers when he couldn’t afford canvas. I doodled around on different mediums for fun and that is how I discovered my passion for painting on wood. My Inspiration & Art
This is me & how I reflect. I know not a better way of expressing myself and I love it! My inspiration comes from nature & fashion mostly but my work is always dictated my mood &emotions. Emotions: My twenties have been an emotional rollercoaster to say the very least. I’ve learnt most things are indeed black & white; life & death, love & hate, good & bad, generosity & greed, marriage & divorce, laughter & tears, rich & poor, lies & truth, selfless & selfish. This is represented in “pieces of me” with vivid black & white. These are my concrete lessons! The colours represent my grey area for life is too short to live in black, white & grey. My colourful grey area of lessons that Im still freely learning is inspired by two things; nature & fashion which I find the most amazing works of art
Nature: I believe all the patterns on my “pieces” of arts & living are already existent in this world somewhere in nature, polkas dots on a fish, texture of an alligators back in the Nile. Flowers, zebras, perhaps the stripes on a watermelon or the waves in the sea. God has created so much art and I have used these patterns that already exist in his art to create my grey area of multiple mixed emotions, to bring to you my idea of arts & living. Fashion: I love how fashion is so forward today. I love how it has no limits or boundries and one can go so far to express themselves. Today if you walk out with a frying pan on your head someone somewhere might refer to it as “art” or “swag” or “yolo”. This is the idea behind the fun fabrics, bits and bobs used to dress my “pieces. Furniture to me, is the best way to incorporate my passion for painting on wood with fashion. This way I get to do what I love, pour my emotions into a piece by painting patterns inspired by the world around me using the colours of my mood to make your spaces more fashionable. Unlike a statement dress that you can only wear once, a “piece of me” will go a very long way. Getting down to Business! Currently everything is on sale via. Tashkeil
