Greetings all! I can hardly believe we're through the first quarter of the year! So far still hanging in there with my reading challenge, although I was really hoping to have finished more of my education reads by now and be moved into new ones. But March wasn't a bad month for reading overall. I read 10 books, 2 were from my first round of selections for the 5x5 challenge, and 3 others will have a place on my Literary Life Challenge....

Happy second day of spring! It's later in the month than I like for my monthly reading update, but it's technically still March, so we're just going with it. We spent a week on spring break and I kept thinking I would write the post while we were gone, but it just didn't happen! But here we are! February was a good reading month....

Happy February, friends! We're more than halfway to spring now, and I have daffodil shoots poking up out of the leaves outside. I'm a happy camper! January was a great month for reading and hitting other goals. I was pleased with the progress I made in my education reading loop, and finished 11 other books. I am also 33 days strong in developing a daily writing and violin practice that fits into my life well....

"How do you find time to read?" "I'd love to read more, but I just don't have the time." Those specific statements or some variation on them are the things I hear most often if the topic of books and reading comes up. I do read a lot, and I always have. My childhood was punctuated by library trips, and if my bookstack was not partially blocking my vision by the time I made it to the checkout, my mom had given me time limit 😉 I don't think I've ever truly slowed down....

You all should know by now that I love my reading challenges. I love making them, seeing how far I get in a year, what comes easily, what doesn't. Truthfully, I don't know why. But I love learning new things and challenges help to keep me focused. This year I am excited to start a quarterly meetup for my reading challenge friends, so we can trade book ideas and have a little accountability and encouragement to stay on track....

2023 was quite a year! I did make it through my reading challenge, although my monthly updates here were few and far between. Determined to do better at that this year! So far I am at least writing this in the first week of the new year--so that seems like a good start! In 2023 I read 132 books, in a variety of genres....

It has been a MINUTE since I did any writing to speak of, but here I am, trying to fit it into the edges of my day again. And what better way to start than with a recap of a month of reading?! July was a busy month! We started school AND took a break from school to party with family for a week....

We entered this glass castle together, across the the moat of uncertainty, into a morass of tangled hallways and rooms. The rooms all different shapes and sizes, all made of glass, unique prisms entangling and reflecting the light around us. Attendents conduct us along the pathways. Brief flickers of the lights they carry enter each room and change the balance of dark and shadow....

Ah, September... when thoughts turn to education and new beginnings. We're entering our sixth official year of homeschool this year and I'm sharing a few of my favorite homeschooling inspiration books and captain ideas from these first few years.

Ah, September… when thoughts turn to education and new beginnings. We’re entering our sixth official year of homeschool this year. I use the word ‘official’ just to clarify that we’re talking about the arbitrary length of time in a year, during which most people agree that children ought t...

When Sieg was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes back in August of 2020, it felt like getting punched out in a fight we didn't know we were in. One. Two. Aaaaand I'm down. I put my chin down and fists up and started trying to get back on my feet, but it was a struggle. It's a whole other level of balancing act when your child's health and well-being depends on your commitment....

Holy Lord of all the ages,
Let me to thy haven fly,
Let me rise to seek thee early,
Let my hunger never die.

Feed me with thy blessed gospel,
Let me plead Thee all my days.
Thou, who gave this sinner new life
Stay with me, now and always.
