Great Village is a tiny Nova Scotian gem on the outskirts of Truro. Antique enthusiasts and tourists flock to it, making it a very popular destination in Nova Scotia!

Our host, Donna MacGregor, checked-in with one Great Village collector who has amassed some amazing pieces of history, from silver spoons to unique artwork!

Today we hit the 105 towards Baddeck, took in the beautiful fall colours Cape Breton is known for and stopped in to visit Laverne MacRae.

When not running a fabulous Bed and Breakfast, she keeps an eye out for antiques and has a deep connection to family heirlooms. It was a great day to hear her story and see how she incorporates history into daily life!

We were out filming in Orangedale at a well known antique shop that has a knack for making you feel like you stepped back in time.

It was great chat with Tracy MacLean and see some of the treasures he has found while building his collection of antiques!

Our crew was on point today with lighting, sound and camera!

The history of a Matchbox is fascinating. We learned so much today from a Cape Breton collector of Matchboxes in Washabuck. All it took was a ferry ride around the beautiful Bras D’Or lakes and some gear to see what Cheryl Myette had on display.

The utility of a Matchbox is not what it used to be. A Matchbox was a household staple, but has lost relevance with modern technology, but not for this collector! The art, design and material varies so much, and so do the stories behind them.

Stay connected with us on Facebook and Instagram! We have many more guests to interview for Antiques & Aspirations, a show about collectibles, antiques, and oddities!

Have you ever noticed a basket? All with their own purpose, and utility, aiding us as we collect things our hands cannot hold. Some holding deep traditions among many generations.

We met with a well known collector of Mi’kmaw baskets weaved with sweet grass, traditions and stories passed through generations here on Unama’ki (Land of Fog), Cape Breton Island, and Atlantic Canada. Thank you Dolena Poulette for sharing your stories with us!

Keep following as we continue to reveal more stories from Nova Scotia’s collectors of history, traditions and culture.

We were on the road again today with our crew and host to check out a shop that carries oddities, rocks and fossils.

From taxidermy, to a real piece of moon rock, this location had it all! We captured a glimpse into the life of curator of all that is odd and fascinating at The Sydney Odditorium!

What has Cape Breton Film been up to in 2025 you ask!

We were working hard on pre-production for our new show we are currently filming across Nova Scotia, called Antiques and Aspirations!

We follow Donna McGregor, an antique enthusiast, on a journey throughout Nova Scotia to connect with other enthusiasts of oddities, antiques and collectibles.

Today was our first day of production, and we had a great day with the Cape Breton Film team! We interviewed an incredible person at their home to see their collection they have gathered over the years!

Follow us on our journey as we hunt for antiques, oddities, and the people and stories behind them!
