This day on the 5th May 1971 with Deep Purple.
The band arrive in Perth Australia.
It was Purple's first tour of Australia, five shows in four days, in four states; Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
In Perth the band played at a massive outdoor swimming pool:
"In order to save money we decided to leave our speaker cabinets back in England. They promoters had agreed to build some for us. When we got to the first gig the cabinets they'd made looked fantastic but when we plugged in it sounded like a wet fart. What they'd done was to build cabinets with the same dimensions as our Marshall 4 x 12's but instead of having four speakers inside there was only one speaker in the middle."
Roger Glover
"The first gig we did was at this huge outdoor swimming pool in Perth. All the kids ended up jumping in the pool and we got soaked." Ian Gillan.
