" I’m a classic introvert. I much prefer quiet nights at home with a movie or book than going out. No matter how I tried to break out of my introvert shell – even telling myself the next time we PCS’d I’d make more friends & be more adventurous – I just couldn’t fully emerge.

And that’s OK. You can be an introvert and still enjoy the adventures of military life. It just takes a little more effort."

Where do you work? Do you set up your laptop on the kitchen table, have an Instagram-worthy home office, or head to the nearest coffee shop?

If you’re a military spouse business owner or remote worker, you might be struggling with space. As pandemic restrictions end and places open up, you might be itching to get out of the house. You can’t keep buying lattes all day to justify sitting around the adorable cafe downtown. Plus, if you have a call or a meeting, where can you go for some peace and quiet?

You might want to head down to your local co-working space and rent yourself some space!

"Military spouses dream of the day when their active-duty status will come to an end. But, when your spouse decides to transition from active duty to retirement, this new and unchartered territory can quickly become overwhelming. Questions lay for the path ahead, like what will your next steps be as a family? Will you move to another location, and if so, where will that be? Now that your spouse is retiring, is it time to go back to work or take on more responsibilities in an existing career?"

8 a.m.: I breeze through my inbox and put the final touches on half a dozen outgoing articles.

10 a.m.: I hop on Skype to record an interview with fellow female entrepreneur on the other side of the country. We chat about career, family, education and societal issues.

11 a.m.: I stretch with 30 minutes of yoga and meet the hubby for a lunch date.
Rest of the afternoon is spent developing marketing strategies for start-up clients, intermittent with coffee breaks and dog walks. I wrap things up at 4 p.m. and hit the gym for some cardio.

Yes, this is a typical day in the life of this entrepreneur. Yes, I am a military spouse defying the depressing statistical report of 90% of military wives jobless or unemployed.

"It’s no secret that military spouses have a hard time taking their careers with them, moving around every three years on average. The numbers tell the story: military spouses experience an unemployment rate of 25%, nearly 10 percentage points higher than peak civilian unemployment rates.

Even if you are eyeing a portable career, it’s often a source of frustration that you need to be able to complete certain education and training requirements before you even qualify to apply. Those things can take time, and if a PCS is always on the horizon, how are you supposed to get started?"

We understand the challenges military life can present military spouses when it comes to employment, and your educational goals. [ad]

When it comes to education, the traditional brick-and-mortar four-year-college isn’t always a feasible option.

What some milspouses need is a debt-free educational option that offers certifications in high-demand areas. Bonus points for a school that understands both the needs and the frustrations of the military lifestyle.

If you've been considering a portable career option in a high demand field such as IT [think CompTIA Cloud+ & A+] or, allied healthcare [medical coding/billing], MedCerts may be a perfect option for you.

MedCerts is not only a Top 10 Military Friendly School, but also they are MyCAA Approved

— Most of their programs can be completed in 4-6 months.
— Can be completed no matter where you PCS
— Many of their programs can be paid for with the milspouse grant known as MyCAA.

Back to School isn't only for kids! Start your first day soon too.
