Very excited to share news about the next PKD release: “The End Of Humanity” from Echo Broke Alone, coming September 6th. Cassette preorders (a limited edition of 20) are available now!

Fueled by anger hand-in-hand with hope, Echo Broke Alone’s “The End Of Humanity” is a pensive reflection on the current cultural landscape in America. As it grapples with the inequities and violence inherent in this nation’s DNA, this suite of instrumental pieces offer the contemplative listener a pause in which to process grief and frustration, as well as a starting point for renewed encouragement to keep fighting the good fight.

Shoegaze-inspired guitars burn brightly across this entire album, sparking memories of Caspian, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and jesu. But Bryan Patton (the mastermind behind EBA) isn’t content to merely pull from what’s come before. Over the 15 years since its inception, he has been relentless in his pursuit of beautiful ambient spaces, building a moving discography full of depth and meaning.

Is “The End Of Humanity” a requiem for a species hellbent on its own destruction? Or a fork in the road offering a pause to choose a better path forward? Let the listener attend and decide.

Dubbing has begun on the next PKD release. It’s gonna be a rad one folks.

In case you missed the announcement last week via the PKD Bandcamp page, here’s the lowdown on the next release. Conditioning by Tenebrae Annex () will be out on digital and DVD-R on July 12th. Why DVD and not CD? Well, read on…

Descending upon Tenebrae Annex’s Conditioning is a journey into a late night head-trip, a thundering, pulsating soundtrack for upheaval, revolution, and chaos. The one-man project of Jason Hembree, Tenebrae Annex pulls threads from Akira Yamaoka, Nine Inch Nails, Frank Zappa, and Goblin to weave a sonic straitjacket meant to capture the listener, refusing to let go until the final flickering notes fade into black. Utilizing actual industrial and machinery samples only adds to the effect, giving the entire album a musique concrete foundation that’s both familiar and unsettling.

But this is to say nothing of the visuals accompanying the record. Created from the ground up to be a true A/V experience, each track has its own video, drawing the audience further into the vision of Conditioning. Inspired by experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage, along with visionaries like John Carpenter, David Lynch, and David Cronenberg, the video segments feel beamed in from an alternate reality, where one’s subconscious is played on a loop in a midnight theater. Glitchy, nightmarish…this is not an experience for the faint of heart. Indeed, the story the short film is telling is one of a future malevolent entity, M.Coda Industries, hellbent on genetic and cross-species experimentation. The footage might be taken from closed-circuit signals within MCI, used in brainwashing their human and animal subjects.

Is this a future we’re already creating? Or is it possible to avoid through care and collective course-correction? Time will only tell, but Tenebrae Annex provides us with one possible outcome.

Gaze into the abyss with us, won’t you?

Sirs:
We have encountered another anomaly seeping out from the 2053 Black Kite catastrophe, this time moving in reverse from the initial point of chaos. It appears to be an audio excerpt from a live event in 2052, featuring several of the non-sanctioned groups of anarchists and miscreants we have been tasked with monitoring.

We are providing audio and visual data for research and surveillance purposes only: including one (1) mini CD-R, one (1) festival poster, and one (1) bin for collection and sorting. Should this information fall into the wrong hands, it could serve as points of inspiration and motivation among the wrong groups of individuals. Distribute only with extreme caution.

Signing off,

Much like America itself, Commander :) (read as Commander Smiley Face) is a melting pot of cultural touchstones and musical influences: Twin Peaks. U2. Donnie Darko. From Death Grips to Tom Waits, blink 182 to My Bloody Valentine.

And just as America finds itself on the precipice on numerous fronts, Starrberry Perzervz, takes the listener on a journey both harrowing and meditative. At times confrontational yet inviting, this incredible album is just what we all need to kick off yet another year of uncertainty. It’s a peering into the abyss with a kickass soundtrack. It’s the auditory symbol of contradiction, as twinkling keyboards careen into hip-hop-influenced drum beats, guitars drive into the night of shoegazey layers, while vocals float above it all, condemning what we’ve become…and maybe holding out the slightest sliver of hope for something better.

I’ve been a fan of Commander :) for a few years now, as I got hooked on their artistry from the moment I first heard them. It’s taken a bit for all the planets to align, but I am thrilled to be sharing this record with you as the first Philip K. Discs release of 2024. Jonah and Levi Daniels have created something special here. These sonic collages coalesce in the experimental music space, but their tendrils truly reach out in all directions, bringing something unique to life in the process. The full album will be out on Feb. 16. Preorders are available now at the link in ye olde bio.

In the 2010s, fresh off the release of Domestikwom’s A Peace That Destroys, a brilliant sophomore album journeying through his own Anabaptist ancestors' struggles with violence in the Russian Civil War, Jon Michael wanted to expand the scope of his inquiries. Christianity is correctly accused of often participating and enabling imperialist and colonialist projects, but a closer read of history reveals the complicating stories of people like Thomas Müntzer and The Diggers, whose faith was not driven by the promise of an afterlife, but by the material concerns of this world. Even the Anabaptist commitment to pacifism was not always a constant. This brings us to our second John.

In the 1530s, a Dutch Anabaptist minister, John of Leiden, moved to Münster, Germany, intent on starting a new religious community. Viewed as a prophet, John ran the religious and political powers out of town and outlawed both money and property. This didn’t sit well with neither Catholics nor Lutherans, so they put aside their own fighting to lay siege to the city. Ultimately, the Münster Rebellion was defeated, and the Anabaptist leaders were tortured with hot tongs ripping at their bodies, their tongues pulled out, and murdered with a knife to their hearts. Their remains were placed in iron cages that were hung off the steeple of St. Lambert’s Church.

Armed with these hopeful, yet grotesque and often absurdly violent stories Jon Michael set out to make his next musical excursion a fitting aural companion; a frenetic (and somewhat tongue in cheek) burst into grindcore and noise.

Anabaptists is available now to preorder: https://philipkdiscs.bandcamp.com/album/anabaptists.

Here’s a look at the physical format of the album: limited edition custom mini CD-Rs. Each disc will come in a unique gel-printed, hand-cut/hand-stamped sleeve, paired with a custom print. 20 copies total.
