There was a non-race related incident at the Runoffs and a member of our race family needs our help. Mike West had a medical emergency at the track, fell and hit his head. It left him with a traumatic brain injury. He's been in Wisconsin hospitals since the Runoffs and in the near future he'll be ready for transfer to a facility nearer to his Memphis home. Insurance doesn't cover the air ambulance and the bills for his wife and his family to be with him in Wisconsin are piling up.

I first met Mike two years ago when I joined the Super Tour traveling circus. I quickly learned how talented he was dealing with the various challenges that pop up as a race director of a national touring series. Even more important... over the last two years I've learned Mike is top notch human being.

His family has started a Go-Fund-Me.

I always tell my non-racing friends how I started racing for the cars and I stay for the people. I share how much I love my racing family... it's time to us take care of one of our own.

Missed my stack of gear shot. But here I am at LAX once again from my redeye to the runoffs. Weather in Wisconsin looks great for the week. And I’m flying out of the Tom Bradley terminal for the first time. So this is what $1.9 billion dollars buys you!! Hopefully I’ll get a few hours of sleep.

A good day at Lake Elsinore with Cal Club Solo Autocross. I didn't finish last! So maybe some of the dust is coming off the tires. Learning more each time out... Like, who knew when you turn off traction control on a Honda it really isn't off? Some knew... but I wasn't on that list. I'll be learning how to do that before Solo Nationals.

My favorite part of the day... As I was rolling down to grid for my run group I heard an announcement that they were looking for an announcer. I couldn't help because I was about to compete... then a few minutes later... I heard a voice. After a few minutes, I thought to myself, that sure sounds like Alex. I still wasn't sure... until after one of my runs... and I heard the voice on the PA nail the pronunciation on Bielanski.

I announced for the final two groups... so if you were at Lake Elsinore today hopefully you enjoyed the Bielanski Duo on the PA!

Inside Vintage Racing joins Inside the SCCA and Inside ChampCar and is the latest of the "Inside" series of motorsports offerings. It will focus on all things Vintage Racing. We'll go around the country and meet drivers, talk to the people who keep these older beasts running and learn about some of the coolest cars to ever hit the racetrack.

Her take on the state of motorsports today was spot on. Women racing today are standing on the foundation she helped build and continues to build today.

Tools... every once in a while, I'll pick up something on sale because someday I'll need it. I've had this in the box for years. It's not even a good set.

Well, today I needed it and it worked. I had a tiny screw on the base of a computer monitor stripped -- fully fuccaca'ed.

The smallest extractor brought it right out.

Today was a good tool day!

Parnelli Jones was my dad's favorite driver. That's why dad's car number was #98. Going forward I will race the #98 to honor them both.

I hope they are upstairs bench racing and swapping stories about the good old days.

Sunday Race Day! Cal Club

Sitting at DFW waiting for my hop to Burbank. Reminding myself how grateful I am to be able to travel the country to announce the SCCA Super Tour. At many stops I get to connect with people who have become family over the years... and at most stops the family grows larger.

The racing was great on the new pavement at Mid-Ohio. I was honestly a little apprehensive going to Mid-Ohio. My last time there was during the Runoffs in the 90's. At the time the facility was like the Taj Mahal. It was what many tracks aspired to be. In recent years I heard reports the track had fallen into disrepair. That really made me sad. I'm happy to report a lot of work has gone into many of the problems I've heard about. The signature "red roofs" are still there... the media center was in good shape but could still use a bit of an update. Most important -- the hospitality from track staff and Ohio Valley Region members was top notch.

Now Gregg gets to spend some time on the road. Next stop for me -- Buttonwillow in two weeks.
