A nice evening in West Cork.
A great bar, skimming stones and a sunset with cows....
This jacket is at the top of the road in Allihies, I wonder if it belongs to an Irish mountain running association member?

A little parenthesis into Cork city. There was an Italian Film Festival. N.I.C.E. and we saw two films which were really fantastic, "Dieci Minuti", Ten Minutes, by Maria Sole Tognazzi and "Il primo giorno della mia vita", The first day of my life, by Paolo Genovese.
These films were absolutely brilliant and I am so happy to have taken the road to Cork to see them. Thanks to whoever for organizing it, I am very grateful.
I'm learning to be a weeder.
I shed a tear for PJ this morning, such a nice man.
It is not RTE and Nationwide, but it is there on the internet to see, a film at PJ's farm when they were doing some sheep shearing. He only appears in it two or three times and very briefly, but it is now witness to times gone by.
RIP PJ

A quick visit to Bill Griffin
What a truly humbling experience with Balaji, walking around the most crowded square KM in the world. Dharavi in Mumbai is a slum, in that it was created decades ago on reclaimed land around the railway-line. However it is a thriving area of business where communities from all over India have ended up and work in recycling, leather fabrication etc.
I ended up having an extra day in Mumbai, so I visited this place and Balaji took me to places I would not have gone on my own, for fear of overstepping where it was polite of me to go. So many people in such a small place.
Now with reflection it is easy to see how our first world problems can overcome us, when in actual fact, mainly in life, we have very small problems. It goes back to the needs of life, the main ones being, sustenance and shelter.

I come across these writings from time to time, this one in my room at Bundi.
Doing it right now, being human ...
One of the two boys who sat on me during my bus ride today. The sun glasses helped him over come his fear of me....
Graffiti, Varanasi, which resonates....
Met a lovely fella from the Cork Kerry border and bought his book, and yes I am trying to be...
Now in MP for a few nights. Film to be made, but not at all what I planned.
Random shots from Varanasi, it is time for me to move on. Since I published the film I have mainly been studying in my room, with the odd chai break.
Choices so far:
New film about the Caste system in 2024.
Rajasthan and maybe a motorbike.
Mysore and a course.

The last days in Kolkata are behind me, here are some shots I took hanging around the hotel and environs. Hotel Maria, Kolkata.
Happy Christmas Mr Lawrence springs to mind with the first one.
Then Mr Duracell....
Kolkata has Asia's largest remaining tram system. It dates back to the 19th century. I took a one hour return tram ride on route 26. It was a great way to see the city in a relaxing way. The trams are a wonderful testament to the resilience of Calcutta.
A lovely serene way to visit Kolkata.

You can see yourself towards the end…
Leaving Darjeeling with some sadness, but the mist is always down and other paths lie ahead.
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway system more locally known as the Toy Train, today I spent about two and a half hours on the train and covered a distance of 18KM with two short stops. A great piece of history and fun as well. The weather is misty here so I could not always get the shots I would have liked but I enjoyed putting the film together.
Of course at four minutes long it is way too long for anyone to be bothered watching it all the way to the end, this is social media, after all….
Today when I awoke at 7:30 Darjeeling was still in the mist, I really want to see the mountains so I went on a ten mile walk and walked up and down Tiger hill to a height of 2500 Meters where for about ten minutes I was treated to a magnificent view of Kangchenjunga the third highest peak in the world. There is a chance, but I am not sure that Everest is there too. It looks smaller as it is 107 Miles away which is a bit further than Kanchenjunga.
The peace and joy I got from seeing this mountain brought a tear to my eye. Magnificent.
After, I walked back down and had a wonderful tibetan meal and then carried on back down to Darjeeling.
So yesterday I made it to Siliguri where the plains end and the Himalayas start. It is only 130 meters above sea-level. The first photo is groups of families arranging where they all slept the night before. Possibly railway employees.
Then the view from my hotel, unfortunately today it is Misty, normally you can see snow capped high mountains from my room.
The rest of the photos are the famous Darjeeling Toy Trains
It is very cold here above 2000 meters but I bought a jacket and boots before I left Kolkata.

Yesterday as I was roaming around Kolkata I came across the 2024 Kolkata Literary Festival. So I sat down and listened to a few of the talks. I have read a number of novels based on the real history of India interwoven with fictional characters and it has given me a great insight into how India works and still works to this day. Therefore when Kunal Purohit a freelance journalist came on and started to talk about and from his book “H POP” about how popular culture can induce hatred and harm due to religious extremism I was very interested. I feel he is a brave man to put it into a book and fair play to him.I was very happy to have a very brief chat with him afterwards. The literary festival was brilliant,I wish I had found out about it earlier and not just by chance. The people who I had the pleasure to listen to were very articulate and had a wonderful facility of expression. The book is available on line. #kolkata #india #happiness #love #safety #bengal #real #incredibleindia #barasat #indian #bengali #calcutta #hpop #literary #festival #aklf #kunalpurohit #aklf15years #apeejay #fuji #xt4 #xf1680 #xf27 @kunalpea
