Boating enthusiast Greg Stockholm took us for a ride through the Springfield delta, a maze of water alleys and swamp grass that lies on the western part of Lewis & Clark Lake. Here’s a video that offers a taste of the trip. To learn more about the unusual eco-system, check the story and photos in our March/April ’25 issue. If you’re not yet a subscriber, we’d love to have you join our reading family. So here’s an introductory deal: call 1-800-4456-5117 (or text Kiki at 605.660.5718) and tell us you want to start with the Springfield Delta story, and we’ll give you TWO YEARS for the price of one (only $29).

Every town should have a hat-maker like Jack Scholl, but the City of Belle Fourche is the lucky one. We spent a day at Jack's shop -Weather Hat Company- a year or so ago as we worked on a story about cowboy hat etiquette, so we knew the community loved him and his hats. They showed it last week when, according to a story in the Belle Fourche Beacon, a huge crowd filled the Branding Iron Bar in in Belle for Jack's 70th birthday party. Most of them were wearing hats that he'd made for them.

State basketball tournaments are beginning soon, so we thought we would once again share the story behind the annual Spirit of Six Award.

Rapid City was stunned when a plane carrying six cheerleaders and three community leaders crashed 50 years ago. But the cheerleaders’ memory survives through an award honoring their spirit.
