Edo: Let’s Not Slip Backward
By Dr Wellington Osadolor
Since 2016, Edo State has embarked on a remarkable journey of progress and transformation under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki. Through a series of strategic policies and programs, the state has witnessed significant reforms across both the public and private sectors. This momentum of development and improvement is a testament to Governor Obaseki’s visionary leadership and commitment to the betterment of Edo State.
Transformations Under Governor Obaseki
Governor Obaseki’s tenure has been marked by numerous achievements that have positively impacted the lives of Edo citizens. His administration has focused on creating an enabling environment for businesses, enhancing public service delivery, and fostering socio-economic development. Key areas of transformation include:
1. Economic Reforms : Initiatives to boost local businesses and attract investments have revitalized Edo’s economy. The state has seen a rise in entrepreneurial activities and job creation, contributing to economic stability and growth.
2. Education and Healthcare ; The governor’s emphasis on education reform has led to improved school infrastructure, teacher training, and student performance. In healthcare, investments in facilities and services have enhanced the quality of care available to residents.
3. Infrastructure Development : Significant investments in road construction, transportation networks, and urban renewal projects have improved connectivity and livability in Edo State.
4. Public Sector Reforms :Efforts to streamline government operations and enhance transparency and accountability have made public services more efficient and accessible to citizens.
The Stakes in 2024
As we approach the 2024 elections, Edo State faces a critical decision. The progress made over the past years must not be jeopardized by a return to policies that have previously stifled development and made life difficult for Nigerians. Currently, Nigerians across the country are grappling with soaring prices of essential commodities and widespread economic hardship. The poor are suffering immensely, and the cost of living continues to rise, exacerbating the plight of many.
In this challenging context, it is imperative that Edo State continues on its path of progress and does not slip backward. The upcoming elections present an opportunity for Edo citizens to choose leaders who will build on the achievements of the Obaseki administration and steer the state toward further growth and development.
Supporting a Visionary Leadership
To ensure that Edo State remains on the path of progress, it is crucial to support a leadership team that is committed to transformational governance. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presents a compelling option with Barr. Asue Ighodalo as the governorship candidate and Barr. Osarodion Ogie as the deputy governor candidate. These leaders bring a wealth of experience, a clear vision for the future, and a deep commitment to the well-being of Edo’s citizens.
Barr. Asue Ighodalo is known for his dedication to economic development and good governance, while Barr. Osarodion Ogie has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to public service. Together, they represent a team that can continue the work of transforming Edo State, ensuring that the state remains a beacon of progress and opportunity.
Edo State has come a long way since 2016, and the progress made under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration must be safeguarded. As we look to the future, it is essential that Edo does not slip backward by electing leaders who will undo the gains achieved. By supporting the candidacy of Barr. Asue Ighodalo and Barr. Osarodion Ogie, Edo can continue to move forward, building on its successes and creating a brighter future for all its residents. The choice is clear: Edo must move forward.
