Smith was majority shareholder of Initiative Productions Limited, The Energy Works Inc. , and now UpSideRight Media. Inc.,

Do It For Yourself -Creator, producer, director and writer – CBC Network, USA Network, PBS, Discovery Channel in the US and other US Syndication. The Company had its beginnings as Initiative Productions in the 1970s and is best known for Celebrity Cooks with Bruno Gerussi. A TV hit that ran for 12 seasons in Canada and eventually in the US market. (1975 to 1987). The company is currently working on two shows to produce. One is a reboot of the original Celebrity Cooks show, using essentially the same successful formula but with a new host and contemporary guests. A second show called Don't Act Your Age is also in development. Derek Smith is Executive Producer, Producer, Director, Writer

A NEW TELEVISION SHOW in the works. MRS CALABASH'S LAST HURRAH.. Maggie branches out from her kitchen to meet Seniors who have done some amazing things after retirement. Having a last kick at the can if you will. The show is aimed at Seniors and will contain the stories of old folk wrapped in music, laughter, information and everything else that fits.
