Better than Mecca and the Soul Brother?

I say yes but hear me out…

Mecca had better songs, the biggest of their careers but TMI was more cohesive. It was the better overall album and more enjoyable to listen to if that makes sense. This is like LET and Midnight Marauders, whereas LET had the better songs but MM was the better album.

What say you?

Is this a top 5 rap song for you?

As a child, we’d sometimes front with the songs we really liked, so you wouldn’t be judged differently with your friends. It was easy to labeled something with the quickness.

As you get older, you simply don’t give a f**k. I happen to think all these songs hit. Some just hit different than others, but they’re all are a part of my 80s time capsule.

I remember Chevy Chase in the You Can Call Me Al video.

I remember loving with the scratch sound from Rockit.

I remember hearing Axel F and wanting The Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack.

I remember thinking Corey Hart is kind of a do**he for wearing his sunglasses at night but god damn those haunting synthesizers were dope.

I remember hearing Uptown Girl and thinking isn’t Billy Joel from Pennsylvania because of Allentown?

I remember watching The Last Dragon and hearing Rhythm of the Night, then I saw the video and thought dude was Prince.

I remember buying those jelly bracelets because of the Madonna craze was real.

I remember thinking Don’t You (Forget About Me) was the greatest soundtrack song ever.

I remember watching MTV waiting for The Final Countdown...all day.

I remember Eddie Lee Roth being the coolest MF’er before Axl stepped on the scene. The Jump video was iconic.

I remember Planet Rock would be the song played at every roller skating rink.

I remember thinking Boy George was a bit too strange for me as a 6-year-old, but damn did Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and Karma Chameleon knock.

I remember listening to the Let’s Dance album by Bowie an entire summer while in Brigantine.

I remember being scared of Somebody’s Watching Me because I used to frequent the Brigantine Castle (IYKYK).

I remember being a big fan of Billy Ocean but when I saw Danny Devito, Michael Dougle and “The Joan Wilder” in the video for When the Going Gets Tough, I knew I had made the right decision.

I remember hearing West End Girl and not knowing all the words to the hook but liking that they were rapping which I started to fall in love with around 1985 thanks to Run-DMC.

If music is the soundtrack to our lives, then the 80’s were the most euphoric for me. Music has this remarkable power on people and I need it just like I need oxygen to breathe.

For me, the 80’s were a simpler time. Like Gladys once said “Everybody’s talking about the good old days, right? Everybody! The good old days. Well, let’s talk about the good old days!”

Growing up, you didn’t have all these worries of today. I certainly didn’t have a job, a mortgage, a family and an ever-growling list of bills. We weren’t consumed with health and wealth like we were happiness in our formative years.

My biggest dilemma was deciding between Kay-Bee, Toys “R” Us or Kiddie City as to which store to buy my next G.I. Joe or Star Wars action figure. It was bouncing around from the Willow Grove Mall to the Roosevelt Mall and making sure I had just enough quarters to play WrestleFest or Spy Hunter and maybe still have a few dollars left for an Orange Julius or some Boardwalk Fries. Can it be all so simple?

I thoroughly enjoy curating these playlists and creating what I like to call a musical journey into the ‘80s. Instead of worrying about formatting these in specific genres or their respective years, I wanted to curated a collection of tracks that mimicked my musical upbringing.

I plan on releasing at least 5 volumes of The 80’s Mixtape, with music ranging from Skid Row, The Dead Milkmen, Bobby Brown, The Cure, Air Supply, Guns N’ Roses, DeBarge, Billy Joel, Chicago, Run-D.M.C., Talking Heads, Prince, Duran Duran to Big Daddy Kane.

If you enjoy a variety of good music and want to relive the 80’s with me, please check out my mix only available on Spotify to stream.

Who said TIP can’t keep it PG-13?

On episode 152, we’re doing just that. For the first time in 8 years, you’ll now be able to listen to an entire episode of Take It Personal without telling your kids to put on their ear muffs. No more lowering the volume or fast-forwarding a track, we got you and your family covered with the perfect mixes.

Enjoy that car ride together with peace of mind knowing we’re here to educate and entertain ya’ll, kinda like Bill Cosby, just minus the ruffies.

Join us on a 3-hour journey with General Steele of Smif-N-Wessun as we deep dive the '95 classic, Dah Shinin.

General Steele gives us some insight on the making of each track off the album, as well as shares some intimate details about recording in D&D Studios, confirming the rumor that Jay-Z was denied access during the 1, 2 Pass It collaboration, plus you'll hear remarkable stories about 2Pac, Sean Price, Buckshot, Puffy and learn much more...like he is a Trekkie?

This was an amazing interview and album breakdown with Steele and we know you're gonna love!
