Marine Le Pen has surged to 23 percent in our POLITICO Poll of Polls which still has Emmanuel Macron ahead at 27 percent. A 4 percentage point lead would be within the historical margin of error of plus and minus around 2 percentage points for each party or candidate.

In 2017, left-wing candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon delivered a sprint finish in the last 40 days, going from 11 percent in the polls to 19.6 percent on election day. He still ended up in fourth place, but just 2 points behind the second-placed Le Pen who qualified for the second round. TALK OF THE TOWN: While Eric Zemmour’s numbers in the polls are decreasing, the pundit-turned-politician continues to stir up the conversations online. According to the Social Media tracker by Ipsos-Sopra Steria in collaboration with Synthesio, Zemmour still has the second highest number of mentions each week on social media posts and blogs, just behind Macron. He gets mentioned twice as much than his rivals from left and right, Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Valérie Pécresse. And although Le Pen seems on track to qualify again for the second-round of the election, she gets less attention than the others online.
