I captured video and stills of the grand opening of a new history museum in Murphysboro, Illinois, on Sunday. This is part of my volunteer work to support local organizations focused on history. Many of these groups cannot afford media services like this, so I'm always happy to help.

The grand opening was for the Woman's Relief Corps' GAR Memorial Museum located in exhibit space at the General John A. Logan Museum.

More product videos for the best company on the planet. Two days on-site with Wehrli Custom Fabrication Inc., capturing a couple of months' worth of video posts. Always fun and interesting. Seriously, I always learn on these trips

Interesting day.

Today I flew a drone mission over south St. Louis. The flight required FAA approval because of the site's proximity to the Downtown St. Louis Airport. I was not optimistic. But to my surprise, I received approval to fly at 100' for two hours in the afternoon. Here are a couple of river and city shots. Once I complete editing the client's images, I will ask permission to post a few.

Jason Wehrli, founder/owner of Wehrli Custom Fabrication Inc., describes the features and benefits of one of his company's amazingly awesome products. This is our standard set-up when I visit WCFAB's shop in DeKalb, Illinois. It's a basic, three-camera shoot and includes a Canon Cinema 70, 4K system.

The goal is to control camera framing, lighting, and audio quality as much as possible. I cannot control everything, but that's why we have editing. 😀

This is fourteen hours of work.

It's a 7-minute video I just submitted to the best client ever - Wehrli Custom Fabrication Inc. Every piece of video, still image, graphic, and music are combined in this interface known as a timeline. Every edit required a decision followed by endless tweaking and second-guessing. You've got to love this stuff - few shortcuts exist - but in the end, it's so satisfying! This video will probably help WCFAB sell this product for the next decade.

Please check out my YouTube Channel and subscribe, if you don't mind. The channel focuses on my storytelling about the past and my work for various historical societies, preservation groups, and even the state agency once known as the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

I have many more videos I'd like to post, along with several personal things I've developed.

I'd post a link here, but FB does a horrible job of pushing it out to all my followers here on my business page (because it's a YouTube link). Instead, I've posted a screenshot of the channel.

Thank you!

Another successful project with a great company Wehrli Custom Fabrication Inc. I love creating these product videos - they're exactly what customers want to see. During a typical visit, CEO Jason Wehrli records nearly a dozen videos like this one. After editing the "rough cut," I'll submit it for approval before uploading it to social sites and the company website. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help this company tell its story and showcase its Made In America products. None of this would be possible without the WCFAB marketing team: Kris Carlson, Sales and Marketing Manager, and Natalia Bird, Digital Content Developer.

I volunteer for the Mound City National Cemetery Preservation Commission - doing whatever I can to promote the group and its work to tell the story of a small Civil War-era national cemetery. On December 17th, we placed wreaths on more than 8,000 graves as part of the Wreaths Across America campaign. This national effort placed holiday wreaths on hundreds of thousands of veteran graves nationwide, at 3300 sites. Our group sold more than 1,000 wreaths. Next year we're hoping to cover the cemetery - which will require around 9,000. Hundreds from throughout the region turned out despite the bitter cold. Special thanks to Paul Echols for the images. Ultra-Special thanks Morrissa Clanahan for her incredible work organizing our local WAA effort.

Today I watched a CBS Sunday Morning piece about how we "so-called" college-educated people have no respect for the trades or those who get their hands dirty to make a living.

I have NOTHING BUT RESPECT for the trades! This photo is of a young, hard-working 20-something tig welding a performance part for a diesel engine. It takes skill to "stack-dimes," as they call it - creating a perfect weld that looks amazing and withstands high temp and other stress to hold two pieces of metal together.

I am proud of my education and career as a content creator. I've met some amazing people and told some incredible stories about them. But if I were 18 again...

Here's a small collection of graphics/animations created for recent projects. Animations add visual interest that holds or grabs the viewer's attention. I prefer keeping them simple.

On Their Way Home. General John A. Logan Museum recently dedicated a memorial to the 200 men of the Illinois 56th Infantry who died on March 31, 1865, when their ship caught fire and sank. This is the story of the museum's work to honor those men.

You can't ignore the all-important video thumbnail for YouTube and IGTV. The thumbnail reinforces your business brand and makes it easy for potential viewers to see your recognizable logos and colors. Here's a batch recently created for Wehrli Custom Fabrication Inc.

WCFab decided to update its thumbnails - removing older graphics with this newer design. There is also evidence an updated thumbnail generates new viewers.
