The Placer County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for missing 16-year-old Truckee resident, Kiely Rodni. Detectives are currently following up on leads and our Falcon 30 helicopter is assisting the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office with the search for Kiely. Our air operations crew will be flying over the Interstate 80 corridor between Donner Summit and the Nevada state line, and will continue searching around the Prosser Lake area.

Despite the numerous resources we have utilized, Kiely and her vehicle are still missing. We are currently coordinating with the California Highway Patrol, Truckee Police, FBI, and the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office as we continue our search for Kiely.

We are trying to obtain as much information as possible — our focus is getting Kiely home safely. If anyone has any information about Kiely and her whereabouts, please call our tip line: (530) 581-6320 Option 7.

Happy New Year, South Lake Tahoe!!! We are excited to see everyone out celebrating having a good time tonight. Wishing you happiness, health, and good choices in 2022!

Here's our survival guide for NYE SLT 2022!

Rule #1: Drive smart. Clear your cars completely of snow, leave plenty of room, slow down, and pay attention.

Rule #2: Designate a SOBER DRIVER. "Sober" does not mean "least drunk." It means SOBER. We will find you and you will go to jail if you drive drunk tonight. Be smart. Save your own life.

Rule #3: Dress warm!! It's going to be in the single digits tonight. Dress in layers and be prepared.

Rule #4: Drink responsibly! That "alcohol jacket" will not save you from hypothermia. Plan to have fun, not to get belligerent!

Rule #5: HAVE FUN!! Check out the local businesses and shops, enjoy the concert at heavenly village, and have fun celebrating with your friends and family!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As some residents are now allowed back into their homes, there are still many residents under mandatory evacuation orders. Even those who are allowed home remain under evacuation warnings.

05/09/2021

As Douglas County evacuation orders lift, Nevada Division of Emergency Management and Nevada Department of Wildlife reminds drivers to slow down, use caution.

As animals continue to make their way east, residents should drive slow and with extreme caution, as animals don’t know the difference between pavement and terrain.

These animals will be stressed and scared, and drivers can help wildlife and reduce the chance for conflict by:

• Slow down, stay alert and be extra cautious.
• Watch for wildlife crossing roadways, even in areas where they may not normally cross.
• Give animals space and avoid contact with them.

**No Access to Evacuated Areas**

EDSO, Fire, and our Law Enforcement and Community Partners are receiving numerous calls, emails, and communications from citizens requesting law enforcement escorts to their homes into evacuated areas. We want to emphasize at this time, no citizens are allowed to enter the evacuated areas other than fire and law enforcement personnel, and critical infrastructure companies such as PG&E, EID, etc. These calls and communications are adding an additional burden to our call centers and the Emergency Operations Centers.

There are many rumors about "Permits" being issued to get to your property. There is only one type of permit process to access a property, which is specific to certified growers and ranchers who operate a legitimate business. When a grower and/or a rancher is verified by the local Agriculture Department, they may be eligible for a temporary pass to tend their crops and livestock for a designated period of time.

Repopulation into evacuated areas is being discussed and evaluated constantly, numerous times per day. The current conditions of the fire, predicted weather events, and critical infrastructure are just a few of the many factors in these discussions. The Caldor Fire is extremely unpredictable and volatile. Please be assured, as soon as evacuated areas are approved for repopulation, CAL FIRE, USFS, EDSO, and our other community partners will inform the public.

When repopulation occurs, you will be informed through the Code Red notification system if you are registered. The repopulation will also be posted on the social media platforms of EDSO, Cal Fire, USFS, and El Dorado County.

We understand this is a difficult time for our entire community and we appreciate your patience. We are literally working around the clock to keep your homes safe and get you back to your lives as fast as we can, safely. The safety of our citizens is our primary concern. Thank you.
