Prime Minister of India His Excellency Narendra Modi talked to Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus over telephone on Friday

The Indian Prime Minister felicitated Professor Muhammad Yunus on his assumption of the leadership of the Interim Government.

The Chief Adviser thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the call and the tweet he posted immediately after he was sworn in as the Head of the Government of Bangladesh. He felicitated the Indian leader and the Indian people on the occasion of India's Independence Day, which was celebrated on Thursday, August 15.

The Indian Prime Minister expressed his good wishes to the new government and expressed to work with Bangladesh for the benefit of people as close friends. He also expressed his desire to work closely with the Professor Yunus-led Interim government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the leadership of the 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate, saying he knew him for a long time. He said Professor Yunus has long experience and his leadership will bring good to the people of Bangladesh.

The Chief Adviser has told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that his government is committed to safeguarding every citizen of the country including the minorities when the Indian Prime Minister raised the issue of the protection of the minorities.

Professor Muhammad Yunus said that the reports of attacks on the minorities have been exaggerated and he is inviting Indian journalists to visit Bangladesh and report from the ground on the issues of the minority protection.

Professor Muhammad Yunus said the situation in Bangladesh has been brought under control and life is becoming normal across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Professor Yunus to join the Third Voice of Global South Summit to be hosted virtually by New Delhi on August 17. The Chief Adviser has agreed to join the summit virtually from Dhaka.

He said his Interim Government has taken over as a result of the student movement. This is a Second Revolution of Bangladesh and his government will fulfill the desire of the democratic aspirations of the students and people, he said

The Chief Adviser said his government is committed to making all state apparatus fully functional and effective and ensuring human rights for every citizen of the country.

The UN human rights chief, Volker Türk, has made a phone call to Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday.

The Chief Adviser thanked him and his longtime friend Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General, for supporting the Bangladesh students revolution and championing their rights during unprecedented and devastating killings of student protestors.

The 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate said human rights will be the cornerstone of his administration and the protection of every citizen is the top most priority of the goverment.

The UN rights chief said a UN-led investigation will be launched very soon to probe the killing of the protesters during the Student Revolution. A team of UN experts would soon visit the country to set up investigation.

Professor Yunus has sought UN cooperation for rebuilding the country and to uphold human rights.

Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians arrived in Dhaka this morning for a 3-day visit to Bangladesh. Hon’ble Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen, MP received Her Majesty the Queen at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Hon’ble Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hasan Mahmud, MP was also present at the airport as the Minister-in-waiting to receive Her Majesty the Queen. H.E. Mr. Didier Vanderhasselt, Ambassador of Belgium to Bangladesh and H.E. Mr. Jean-Louis Six, Ambassador and Special Advisor to the Queen, among others, were also present.

Her Majesty Queen Mathilde, in her capacity as UN Secretary-General’s Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals, is visiting Bangladesh from 6-8 February 2023. Her Majesty the Queen will pay courtesy calls on the Hon’ble President and Hon’ble Prime Minister and will visit a garment factory in Narayanganj and a UNICEF school in Dhaka, Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, and projects linked to flooding in Khulna. Hon’ble Speaker will host a dinner in honour of Her Majesty the Queen.

Her Majesty Queen Mathilde has been appointed by the UN Secretary-General as one of the 17 SDG Advocates for 2021-2023 as an inspiring and influential individual raising global awareness of the SDGs and the need for accelerated action.
