American Veterans Radio was established with DJ Doc Jim & Vicki Lynn's son Stephen in mind. Jim and Stephen didn’t have many things in common but the one thing they did, well let us say, it is the genesis of AVR.
Music had always been a huge part of both men’s lives. Jim had been an ‘On Air Personality” with several radio stations, however, they were not directly in tune with what Jim wanted to pursue. Jim wanted to communicate directly with Stephen in Iraq as well as with his battle buddies. Thus, American Veterans Radio LLC. turned on the switch on August 30, 2009, and hasn’t looked back.
At the time Stephen was serving his first tour of the campaign Operation Iraqi Freedom with the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division 3rd Battalion 3rd Brigade Combat Team out of Fort Hood Texas. He was stationed at Camp Anaconda in Balad, Iraq 40 miles north of Baghdad as a Combat Medic. When AVR hit the power button on that late August night, the soldiers of Camp Anaconda got to hear a small piece of home streaming live from stateside.
