Today was a day of firsts for me at ICE Helicopters Great to be able to leave the airfield for the first time since mid-January around 6 weeks before due to poor weather.

Today was my first ever departure and it had a crosswind coming from my left. Later was my first approach, taxi and landing after an hour of practising basic autorotations (like engine failures).

Still a bit wobbly but just two lessons ago I wouldn’t have been able to keep it anywhere near steady enough to lift off (especially not that close to any objects!), taxi and depart unaided and after flying out to practice autorotations coming back in for an approach, taxi and landing again unaided.

Actually just a few lessons ago, I couldn’t see how I’d ever work out how to hover at all as it would go everywhere except where I wanted it to go and behave like a wild bull in a ring. Making progress in the heli finally all thanks to Neil & Ewen at Ice Helicopters.

I enjoyed catching up with some friends over the last 6 months and finally feel more ‘normal’ again.

It’s easy to forget just how many people you have around you and how easy it is to isolate yourself and not even realise it.

I wasn’t feeling great for quite a long time. Most people had no idea at all. One or two knew and others probably suspected it. To most everything looked fine but I really wasn’t.

I’ve always been a closed book to everyone. Very few, if anyone gets to know what I think or feel. And those who do get a curated version.

It stopped my creativity, ideas & strategic thinking around business. Not to mention any motivation to go after the things I want in life. It all disappeared gradually & I just didn’t realise.

One person I’ve known a long time though could tell something was off and got me opening up one day unexpectedly. Letting it out seemed to make all the difference.

Guess what! My world didn’t implode either after speaking up.

Things that were bringing me down were put into perspective and the stress I thought I had around some things disappeared even though nothing had actually changed!

Just having someone to talk to was enough. That’s all I had to do all along. My mindset was just broken.

I found myself speaking to other close friends more openly too. Some opened up and I think we helped each other just talking.

Since going back to London a few weeks ago, I’ve got to see a lot of old faces and it’s been good to reconnect.

There’s a few more people I couldn’t include in the ten posts but you know who you are.

Some won’t like the photo but it’s a recent memory I have with you and you may not have realised how much that moment did for me.

I know some friends are going through hard times behind the social media smiles too. Others I suspect are having problems.

Just reach out if you ever want to chat.

Seeing & speaking to friends again helped me a lot and it could help you too.

So I’m very thankful for everyone that we existed at the same time and I got to know you all!

Talking to people you trust really helps. Isolating yourself like I did does not.

I feel better now and you can too.

Your mindset matters.
