For the second time in less than a year, the Norris Commons Arboretum sign on the eastern side of the Commons near the East Circle Road underpass at Norris Elementary School has been vandalized. Thanks to the generosity of the Norris Lions Club and the Friends of the Norris Library, Movies on the Commons is back! This September, we are glad to offer three free movies, Saturday nights at 8pm.

The lineup includes If (PG, 9/14), Elementals (PG, 9/21), and Barbie (PG-13, 9/28) and they will all be played on the Norris Commons. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and we'll see you there!

The 2024 Norris Watershed deer hunt drawing will take place on Wednesday, August 14th, at the city office located at 20 Chestnut Drive in Norris. Registration will open at noon, and the drawing will begin at 2 p.m. (The city office will close to regular business at 11 a.m. on August 14th to prepare for the drawing.)

This year's archery hunt will take place from October 19th-27th, and the muzzleloader/shotgun hunt will take place from November 23rd-December 1st.

A city permit obtained at the drawing is required to deer hunt in the Norris Watershed. The hunt zone, including the rifle range, will be closed to all other users during the hunts.

Information from the city office on upcoming road work:

“Public Works will be conducting road repairs to E. Norris on Tuesday, July 23rd. The road will be closed between Dogwood & Pine, and possibly rerouted. Thank you for your patience as our crew makes these improvements. Please call the city office if you have any questions.”

Starting July 15th and continuing through September 20th, 2024, motorists should expect lane closures on Norris Dam due to essential construction work. The project will result in single-lane traffic across the dam, with alternating traffic flow controlled by temporary signals. Drivers are advised to plan for delays, reduce speed in the work zone and consider alternative routes if possible. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) assures that the dam will remain open to traffic throughout the construction period but encourages travelers to exercise caution and patience during this necessary maintenance work. Updates on the project's progress will be provided regularly through local media and the TVA's official channels.
