With the Kentucky women’s basketball program zeroing in on their next coach, snd it looking to be Virginia Tech’s Kenny Brooks many may be assuming what this may mean for additions to Kentucky’s roster. Since the release of Kyra Elzy many of the remaining Cats have entered the transfer portal. One young woman has announced her intent to return in freshman Jordy Griggs. Others who’ve yet to announce their intentions thus leaving speculations for a return are native Kentuckians and Ms. Basketball’s Brooklyn Miles and Amiya Jenkins as well as former Shelby Valley standout Cassidy Rowe.
With the right hire could you expect Maddie Scherr another Kentucky Ms. Basketball to use her Covid year to return to Kentucky? Two of Kentucky’s more productive players also entered the portal in Ajae Petty and Eniya Russell. As it stands the Cats have 4 players on the roster with 2 incoming recruits in Louisville Butler’s Ramiya White and Canadian sleeper Tanah Becker who’s known as one of that countries top prospects.
Now factor in what Brooks had in Blacksburg, All-ACC star Georgia Amoore has a Covid season remaining would she decide to finish where she started or with the coach she created many of those lasting memories. Brooks also has a daughter on the roster in Gabby Brooks who was a freshman this season. Throw in some potential recruits currently committed to the Hokies in Lexi Blue one of the most slept on players in the nation, and 6’7 Clara Silva who would likely be a top-10 prospect in the U.S. ranks. One intriguing name is Clara Strack who stands at 6’5 and if she’d decide to follow Brooks to Lexington. The Hokies have a few other complimentary pieces in Carleigh Wenzel, Mackenzie Nelson, Matilda Ekh, and Carys Baker.
Other options to fill out the roster would come via the transfer portal and with names like Taliah Scott (Arkansas), Kailyn Gilbert (Arizona), Terren Ward (Georgia Southern), Kaitlyn Chen (Princeton), Kateri Poole (LSU), Aniya Hubbard (FAU), Kaylene Smikle (Rutgers), Liatu King (Pitt), Saylor Poffenbarger (Arkansas), Caitlin Weimar (Boston), Esmerelda Morales (Portland State), Gracie Merkle (Bellarmine), Ruby Whitehorn (Clemson), Hannah Gusters (Oklahoma State), Maye Toure (Rhode Island), Nicole Melious (LaSalle), Laniah Randle (Southern Illinois), Jaidynn Mason (Southern Illinois), Nevaeh Thomas (Evansville), McKinley Brooks-Sumpter (UNC-Asheville), Kendall Carruthers (St. Francis (PA), and Kyla Jones (Brown).
