Hello, I have a strong moral obligation to my ideas that were constructed in my time using my resources. Just due to a contractual clause? Does the idea relate to the work you do? Well... this is a substantial reason why the world will collapse and falter into a great heap. Imagine that Isaac Newton and Galileo Galilei decided that their ideas were too precious to share! The world would be worse
off as we would never have visited the moon or done other great things like sailing around the world. The newest contractual statements out there in the workforce are suggesting that individuals have no rights to their ideas whilst in the employ of that company. The aspect that remains a grey area, is the simple fact that a person does not live or breath 24/7 the company. That individual must have pursuits and hobbies out side of their work life. How does a contract bind you and your intellect to a company forever? I believe it is one of the greatest forms of theft in the universe. Certainly humanity must abide by their morale obligations, thus... as Samuel Adams stated in a letter in October 29,1777 “Give credit to whom credit due”. In order to do the same for the original writer of the term (even though I am not religious) I must quote them as well...
“Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.” 1769 Oxford King James Bible
I guess that the majority of people don’t consider their idea to be significant in any form to warrant protecting it. Well I can’t stop thinking about the ways in which the world can and will profit from one idea. Perhaps that is yours perhaps it is mine. In short if you had an idea would you want it stolen by a someone who didn’t generate it?
