Authorities in South Carolina have broken up a suspected multistate dog-fighting ring after launching coordinated raids in Chester and Lancaster counties. During the operation, officers rescued 47 dogs living in severe neglect. Investigators from SLED, local sheriff’s departments, and Humane World for Animals found many of the dogs chained in forests and rundown rural structures, suffering from malnutrition, untreated injuries, and wounds typically associated with organized dog fighting.

Among the most disturbing discoveries was a frail mother dog trying to nurse her puppies inside a filthy rabbit hutch.
All of the rescued animals have now been moved to a secure location, where they are receiving medical treatment, proper care, and a chance at recovery.
