The 2023 Fall Brawl winning walleye was a 12.54-pounder caught off Cleveland by Ryan Smith on Dec. 2. The Walleye Slam derby runs through Dec. 1, while the Fall Brawl ends on Dec. 8.

Lake Erie’s surface waters on Sunday were an abnormally warm 57.1 degrees, and that will extend the fishing season once again.

Sandusky Bay is known for its channel catfish bonanza these days, not walleye, and the winners were not without competition.

Ohio's muskie population just got a boost! Nearly 20,000 muskies were stocked in 9 lakes, including Clearfork, Milton, & West Branch. Walleye and steelhead are moving closer to Lake Erie shores as temps cool.

Muskies grow quickly, and the toothy predators can attain lengths of up to 50 inches.

Kudos to Adam Grimm from Elyria for winning the Federal Duck Stamp Contest for the third time! 🦆 In this competition, artists design a stamp that waterfowl hunters must buy, and the funds help protect wetlands nationwide. His design will be featured in 2025!

🎣 Steelhead season might arrive earlier than expected in Northeast Ohio! Autumn rains and cooler nights could bring big trout to the rivers soon. 🐟

To encourage steelhead trout to begin their runs up the Northeast Ohio waterways from Lake Erie, chilly autumn rains are generally needed to encourage them, as well as major overnight dips in the temperature.

Anglers know that it’s been a bit windy on the wide open waters that last few weeks, with more than bumpy waters slowing down the fishing. Mother Nature has finally flipped the fishing switch again, with southerly winds in the weekly forecast and very moderate waves.

The veteran fly guy has not had to travel far to connect with his latest quarry, the often denigrated sheepshead, or fresh water drum.
