The winner of both the Fall Brawl and the Walleye Slam derbies was Ryan Smith of Olmsted Falls with a 12.54-pound walleye caught just outside of the Cleveland Harbor break wall while trolling lures just before midnight on a Friday, Nov. 24.

The best early-season steelhead trout fishing on the Northeast Ohio rivers and streams usually heats up after Thanksgiving as the river waters cool down quit a bit, and rain or a bit of snow help raise river levels to encourage the big fish to move in from Lake Erie.

The recent rains have added enough flow to the Northeast Ohio rivers to spread out the steelhead trout moving upstream from Lake Erie to their spawning areas.

The pedestrian bridge is being finalized and will be open in about a week, Rocky River Mayor Pam Bobst said.

Rocky River Mayor Pam Bobst has announced that the Bradstreet’s Landing pier project is 95 percent complete. “The final paving and sidewalks and the boardwalk are all done,” she said.

Walleye fishermen were roaming the Ohio shoreline this week, taking advantage of the balmy weather to cast lures from Lake Erie’s plentiful Central Basin piers and breakwalls to catch some of the largest fish of the season.

Charles H. Reed’s walleye weighed 10.07 pounds, stretched 29.75 inches, and topped a gaggle of 9-pounders caught in recent days.

The best Lake Erie walleye fishing has shifted to eastern Ohio, with anglers running to deep water off Fairport Harbor to put some trophy walleye and a few steelhead trout in their coolers.

Low water can be a major problem for both experienced and novice boaters.
