Now. Then.
A few things have changed in the five years between these photos, and I'm not just referring to certain people having more or less hair (or my black and white editing style).
The changes evident between these two photos, the new year, and the fact that it's my birthday today (how did that happen AGAIN??) currently has me reflecting on all the things.
There is no denying that the last two years and the disease-that-shall-not-be-named (I just can't say that word anymore, guys) have been tough on everyone. For me personally, restrictions basically shut down my business, and then when things started opening up again I had a really hard time with motivation and inspiration. That combined with the fact that my youngest kiddo was heading to kindergarten this past fall had me looking in other directions career-wise. Somehow I got incredibly lucky and have been working full time for over a year now on a team with amazing coworkers, a challenging work environment, and opportunities to learn things I never thought I would.
So I've decided to make it official: I will no longer be offering family photography or films. Not that I really need to announce that...let's be real, my last post about a client session was over a year ago. There has been so little time to make this business work on top of a day job and the kids' activities (ringette and hockey parents, you hear me). I will continue to do photography and film projects here and there, but will not be taking on clients regularly.
It feels a little (okay, a LOT) like I'm letting go of a huge part of my life, and there is absolutely some internal conflict going on with this decision, but it feels like the right way to go.
With that said, cheers to a new year, new directions, and thank you to every single one of the clients that I had the privilege to work with over the last 8 years. You trusted me with preserving your family memories, and I couldn't be more grateful for that trust and the photos and films we created together. Wishing you all a fantastic 2022.
