تعتبر مدينة بيت لحم من أهم المدن الفلسطينية لإقامة المؤتمرات والمحافل الدولية، وقد شهدت العديد من الاحتفالات والمناسبات منها استقبال الرئيس الأمريكي السابق جورج دبليو بوش أثناء زياته لكنيسة المهد، إضافة إلى استضافتها للمؤتمر الاقتصادي العربي واستضافتها لمؤتمر حركة التحرير الوطني الفلسطيني (فتح) السادس مؤخراً، فهي تحتوي على قصر المؤتمرات.

ى ثلاثة تواريخ مختلفة:تحتفل الطوائف الكاثوليكية والبروتستانتية بتاريخ 25 ديسمبر، وأما الكنيسة اليونانية والسريانية والمسيحيين الأقباط فيحتفلون بتاريخ 6 يناير والمسيحيين الأرمن الأرثوذكس في 19 يناير. تمرُ معظم مواكب عيد الميلاد عبر ساحة كنيسة المهد، في ساحة الخارجية لكنيسة المهد.
